How Is The UK Music Industry At The Moment?

Beside the usual popularity of Kylie Minogue & Girls Aloud.....

What else music-related is going on in England, Scotland, Wales, & Ireland that this U.S. American should know about?

There's a fat bird called Adele who is an Amy Winehouse clone.

She has at least three chins.

The moment we get over Amy Winehouses latest stunt (Snorting vodka up her nose), the sooner we can move on cleaning it up. Still at least we don't have a Britney or disposable artists like Chingy, Flo Rida or Akon

But this Amy Winehouse thing is getting way out of hand, ok she writes music and Rehab is a truly brilliant song, but that shes an alcoholic junkie (We get the fucking joke already mad mad mad ). Okay I know I am a kiwi, but we practically have a monopoly on the importation of UK culture here, the NZ fans of Coronation Street and The Bill must surely only rival the local ones. Our Local Paper "The New Zealand Herald" (Auckland) is practically offering a daily update of Amy Winehouse's latest stunt to an increasingly disinterested audience (is it the same in the UK, we are sick to death of Amy, lets move on to the next thing).
And yes I agree, Girls Aloud, Blue, Paul Potts are SHITE

ummm the UK music industry?

it's quite cool but they are to snobbish to embrace great pop songs.

Adelle, Kate Nash, Katie Medula, Duffy - are nothing to be proud off!

The dance music scene is pretty dead unfortunately at the mo, unless you're into electro, which is sort of a stripped down version of trance/house with alot of 80's style synths layered over a minimalist beat....not to sound too pretentious or "nuthink"!!

Shame really, as dance music scene was always something I figured our Americn cousins never quite caught up with. Doesn't look like their missing out on much at the moment though.

Not bad at all! There isn't a thing wrong with her looks. I guess some people prefer their singers to be sticks with fake tits and botox!

I think some people have been brainwashed by the cosmetics advertisement agencies for too long.

I saw a video of Adele's on a Canadian video channel (can't remember which one); I don't recall disliking it.

Her album is a bit dissapointing to be honest. 'Chasing Rainbows' is a fantastic single but that's about it. Jamie T is definetely one to watch out for. An acquired taste I hasten to add. If you like Billy Bragg and/or The Specials it will be up your street.

The best thing to do is always get Rough Trade's annual compilation albums. There are some fantastic new bands to look out for like Glasvegas. My favourite single by a British artist has to be Dan Le Sac vs. Scoobius Pip's 'Thou Shall Always Kill'. Fantastic lyrics and a very catchy outro.

I don't have an issue with ugly people with talent. I love Nick Cave and he's hardly an oil painting.
I just have beef with talentless, charisma-free "artists" who aren't even pleasing on the eye....
