My mom was a Campbell. Oh yeah? Go to my dad's site. Just type in Eddie and Ernie Page. Page isn't a last name but it's a page that gives a write up about them. It even mentions me. Yeah, our branch of the family is originally from Virginia, don't know if we have any peeps in TX. Good page on Eddie and Ernie, I was just listening to their songs on Myspace too. Great stuff! blackguitaristz said: Very true. As I posted earlier in this thread, he was a HUGE influence on my dad. And my dad was a great vocalist himself. The best rock vocalist ever and one of the best singers in music in general was Steve Perry. Steve was very influenced by Sam as well and showed it. Steve's riffs are very Sam. Now that you mention it his influence on Perry, (whose voice I love) is pretty obvious. Strange it never occurred to me before. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I absolutely adore Sam Cooke. "You Send Me" is one of my all time favorite songs--if I ever get married (which is not very likely), it will be my first dance.
I didn't know who Sam was until I watched the Wendy Wasserstein play, The Heidi Chronicles, in which the song You Send Me plays an important part. I instantly fell in love with the song and had to find the original...and that's how I found out who Sam Cooke was. I love the Night Beat and One Night Stand (Live at Harlem Square) albums. And, of course, A Change is Gonna Come--I can never listen to that song just once, I have to play it at least three times in a row; it's so sad and beautiful. My friend was over the other week and she had never heard of Sam Cooke...I burned her a copy of Night Beat and she loved it. Now she wants more. popgodazipa said: Besides the standard Cooke stuff my favs....

Thank you HamsterHuey for this lovely tribute to him. I've been a fan of his music since I was 5 years old and I will always be a fan(along with Marvin Gaye and Jermaine Jackson as well). [Edited 3/11/08 14:11pm]

Did anyone see the Sam Cooke documentary on PBS here in America? I saw half of it back in November 2007, and I need to buy the DVD. Impressive history on him that I honestly did not know, but I have known his music all my life. My mother even admitted how she had a mad crush on him!

This brother's life story needs to be made but I guess like Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley there will be music licensing problems.
