I hear ya jonylawson. I know Meshell is appreciated much more overseas than she is over here in the states. I personally consider her a national treasure musically speaking, but if you were to ask the average person on the street here about her latest record and chances they won't even know who she is, let alone that she has a new record out.

Radio doesn't play her, and she doesn't make videos...'all she does' is consistently make GREAT music (on record and even more so live on stage) with challenging and intimate themes, and creative & unexpected approaches, with a passion and honesty and skill rarely found in many modern day musicians...

but i don't care. Good music is good music and it will stand the test of time. Many may not appreciate it's value now, but it will hold up long after some other stuff becomes stale. Maybe folks over here will catch on, maybe they won't. She still has a small but appreciative fanbase who will continue to support her and enjoy the creative trailblazing ride her music takes us on. There are a few of us around here who know she's little miss badass! wink

no arguments from me. You could put that album on TODAY and it would STILL sound as fresh and refreshing as it did when it first came out. Hell that record actually came out 12 years ago now that i think about it right? man how time flies when your havin' fun...

ive always thought it odd that meshell never played bass for prince even briefly as she s always said thats her dream and remebr when P was onstage in france in 95 instead of slave scrawled on his cheek it"meshells idol!"

i guess now that prince has stopped waving his freak flag so much it wouldnt be as..out there but still it be fuckin stone cold to see!!

meshell on bass-prince on guitar and hell why not ?love on drums!!!
