Tarkan mania to hit London in April

Turkish pop singer Tarkan, who released his seventh studio album “Metamorfoz” two months ago and sold 300,000 copies in Turkey in the first week of circulation, is now planning a concert in London.

Superstar Tarkan will perform in London's renowned Wembley Arena on Sunday, Apr. 13. He will also sing songs from his latest album, the first Turkish one after the English album “Come Closer.” The Wembley concert will be his first in the UK after eight years and finds his UK fans clamoring for news and tickets. The London fans believe that a star like Tarkan on stage in Wembley Arena would look great.

Tarkan's debut album in 1992, “Yine Sensiz,” sold over 700,000 copies and his success has spread throughout Europe, South America, Russia and even as far as Australia.

He studied at the Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti (Classical Music Institution) and people there started realizing his talent from a young age.

Tarkan worked with Sezen Aksu, Turkey's acclaimed composer, lyricist and singer on the track “Şımarık” of his album, “Ölürüm Sana.” The track topped the charts in many European countries, including Switzerland, the Netherlands, France and Belgium. It also topped the charts in the United Kingdom and the United States when Holly Valance covered the song as “Kiss Kiss.”

When Tarkan moved to New York to collect his thoughts and learn English, he met Atlantic Records co-founder, the late Ahmet Ertegün. Ertegün became a guiding force in Tarkan's life, quietly preparing him for a worldwide career.

The opening band will be the Turkish nu-metal band MaNga. Ticket prices range from 40 to 70 pounds.

He is quite a phenominal performer/vocalist. I hope that a London date means he's not afraid to try a concert or two in the U.S.

Why his last album, one done completely in English, bombed is beyond me. Yet, right after it came out, he did NOTHING to promote it. Instead, he went off to eastern Russia for tour dates. The guy lives in New York, for Pete's sake, so you would think a little gig here and there wouldn't be such an impossible thing. Obviously he sees where the big bucks are, with his audience on the other side of the globe. Hopefully, like I said, London will help coax him into some dates on our soil.

You have great taste, Mach, by the way!

Funny thing about him is, even though he was born in Frankfurt/Germany, he refuses to speak German everytime he´s in Germany and prefers speaking English lol .

Well, let´s not pigeonhole a whole nation here just because some Germans don´t like Turkish immigrants, or Russian immigrants, or Portuegese immigrants, or any other group of immigrants ( I am the son of Turkish immigrants, born and raised in Germany) but you´re right about the horrible things.A lot of VERY horrid, racist things happen in Germany sometimes but I wouldn´t say that these things would not happen in other countries. Then again, some Turks in Germany also do horrible things to Germans ( not just Turks but young immigrants and also young Germans can be quite brutal in Germany) due to the lack of good immigration laws of past decades or a general negativity among youngsters. Your point is interesting and worth a good discussion but certainly not in this forum, P&R would be better for that.
