PrintableIt's one of my (if not THE) least favourite Madonna albums. I always thought it was WAY too long with that 75 minutes and featured a lot of blatant filler. Not to mention the production of the Shep tracks are very dated and he used the same beats throughout most of the album.
"Rain" however, is one of my favourite Madonna songs ever, it's just gorgeous! I also love the Andre Betts tracks. | |

I personally love how the fire/ice dichotomy exists within a single song. Like on Madonna's update of "Fever" where her fiery words are stoked within a frigid almost industrial synth landscape. And especially on "Secret Garden" where Madonna's detached delivery is in constant clash with the "fanning of the fire" effects in the instrumentation bringing about a blitheness on the surface that serves as a teasing counterpoint to the sexual urgency underneath. EROTICA is the only album where Madonna was able to consummate the union between her words and music without relying on trends or tying herself up to genres. EROTICA still is Madonna's boldest and strongest artistic statement. I like your analysis  It's my favorite Madonna album.There's a coldness and sadness to many songs ("Words","In This Life","Bad Girl").It's actually a very dark,moody album.It's also the most New York-sounding album Madonna ever made.It screams "New York underground nightclub" | |
