That's interesting. eek

I totally missed this thread and haven't read through all of it. I'm sure it has been said but not all MJ fans are like this. Someone said Mj's music and achievements speak for themselves. I agree.

Alphastreet also made this impressive post:
mj and janet are my favourite artists ever, but I remember the madonna and prince hype too, and I think it's silly to put them down to build mj up, cause to me, those were the three main big superstars for as long as I've been alive

And Dangerous X:
.....and this is why people call Michael Jackson fans crazy

I concur. wink

Michael Jackson has sold four times more than Madonna or Prince because he was the safe little act that everyone could like ranging from the youngest kids to the oldest grandparents. As soon as kids were old enough to outgrow "Sesame Street", then they got into Michael Jackson. That shit ain't cool at all.

Old folks didn't like Prince because he was nasty as hell and they weren't sure whether he was gay or not. They didn't like Madonna because she was a slut. They were two artists that parents would want to keep their kids away from as a person, much less let them listen to their music. What could be cooler than that, especially when you are a rebellious teenager at the time?

Of course you can sell loads of music when you appeal to everyone and are a "safe, boy next door type" with "good moral values". bored

Not to mention that Thriller gets repackaged and remarketed every 5 years now.

ANother thing is that Prince has many achievements...musically. Notice most of us fans don't think PR was Princes best, many of us have other favorites that didn't do so well commercially. Honestly, there is some amazing music and solid albums in the Prince canon. MJ Has Thriller. Off the Wall and Bad are his other decent albums...but not considered Masterpieces. Prince has (IMO) Dirty Mind, 1999, PR, SOTT, Lovesexy, TGE and Rainbow Children...many of these are considered to be pinacles of Prince's musical career. I would actually consider any of these to be as good as Thriller.

I see your vision...And yes, there's a wealth of music to dig from Prince...I also believe that MJ fans do the man a disservice by constantly briging up his record sales when it comes to any debate about music...And as I've said before, as an oldschool fan of MJ, I know that the dude is a true, once in a lifetime talent (I think you may have to go back and do some research on Off The Wall...Most Mike fans consider that album his best over Thriller...That album is a true classic)...

Yet and still, I think Prince is the superior across-the-board talent...And I can say that without even having to make fun of the hardcore MJ fans...lol

frances: I'm going to admit this, I liked madonna and prince way more as a kid than mj! Once I got familiar with more mj material when I was older, though I knew some of the classics as a kid, then I got into him way more once I got an album on my hands and realized he's not just a video artist after all, cause I thought of him as one for years. Not saying this to put mj down, I also liked him as a kid a lot too, but I guess tastes change over time and I ended up LOVING him once I was a teenager, songs like Who Is It, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal were brought to my attention, and I was in AWE, though when I got HIStory, I found myself loving the off the wall and thriller songs way more, it changes all the time, even today. I even bought madonna and prince albums later on, but michael and janet do it for me best, though I appreciate what everyone has to offer.

The "kop" has sold far more records than Bob Marley too and I think that he doesn't come near to Bob's influence in Music history, only in the freakness department.

I respect bob and you are obviously a fan, but it's silly to say one has had more impact than the other, though it may look that way since Bob Marley T shirts are more accessible than MJ ones nowadays. Both have contributed in such a great way

I don't see where Bob Marley has been more influential than MJ. I don't see anybody being more influential in music and pop culture in general than MJ today.

mj is one of the most influential and the best candidate for most influential of all time, but to say bob is less than him is silly, why compare the two? They don't even do the same style, but have done so much for black music and music and entertainment as a whole.

You know, people like you make me want to really hate mj, there are so many reasons to hate him, but I just don't give in to them cause I love his music too much, but can appreciate other people's impact too, even if mj's appears to be the most obvious influence. It's hard not to hear a song on the radio and think of him nowadays too, but gosh! Go screw his llama or something! Good night!

MJ fans may try and distance themselves from the likes of giggig, but they should ask themselves why it is that MJ attracts so many loons like this. The truth is all the MJ defenders are a bit loony. They might have different degrees of looniness, but they're all a bit loony.

i'm sorry but sales numbers don't mean anything, artists like Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Gabriel, Depeche Mode, Bob Marley.. Prince have changed Music history Mj isn't an innovator at all and since thriller the KOP thing has finally destroyed all his soul-funk roots I think he will be remembered more at the exception of Billie Jean, as an entertainer (for his expensive videos, his life etc) in a Walt disney level than really for his music.
