But, Lol@The Mental Crew. MJ seems to attract a lot of crazy people, I dunno what that says about him but yeah, you might want to tone it down a bit there thread starter. Record sales don't really mean that much at the end of the day. Longevity and being respected are much more important.

MJ fans are probably the only people in the world who constantly talk about album sales instead of the quality of their idols work.

I sure as hell ain't no obsessed fan of MJ's. I love his music and think he's a great TALENT. IMHO, sales don't amount to an artist's greatness at all. My man Marvin Gaye is one of the most celebrated music artists of all time but he NEVER sold 100 million copies. Does that make him less great? Hell no. Same with Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, etc., don't all sell billions of records but they've left unique legacies on their own merit. And I don't dig that when some lunatic comes in here talking about he or she is a MJ fan and presses sales in people's faces, it makes a fan base look out of whack, lol. I might as well be an outsider to the MJ fan community because I ain't about to kiss no one's ass just because they sold a billion copies. NEVER THAT!

mj and janet are my favourite artists ever, but I remember the madonna and prince hype too, and I think it's silly to put them down to build mj up, cause to me, those were the three main big superstars for as long as I've been alive, fuck britney and the late 90's teeny boppers, people my age have no idea.

I have all of mj's music from big boy to we've had enough, as I haven't bought thriller 25 yet but eventually will. But even these days, I feel sad listening to him, and much better listening to janet, even if I think mj is the better artist and talent from those two. During trial time, it was the most depressing, but as much as fans say good things and I say good things, his reputation really, really bothers me and it really sucks for him cause he's such a great talent that's impacted modern popular music, along with a bunch of other artists. It doesn't just suck that society ruined him, but he ruined himself in more ways than one, and he could have avoided putting himself in risky situations.

I love how he's sold so many albums, but I don't like bringing that up to justify his legacy, I like bringing up all the mj influenced music and dance moves(yes I know it's breakdancing, but some of it is mj inspired if not all) to solidify his legacy.

MJ has sold more that Prince and Madonna because he's got more mass appeal.

In the 80s, Madonna appealed to teen girls. Into the 90s and now her audience is mostly LGBT. So teen girls and LGBT are who her music appeals to mostly.

Prince has always appealed more to a black audience.

Michael has always appealed to blacks, whites, young, old, gay, straight. His music is way more accessible than Madonna's or Prince's.
