What is the criteria for being called blue eyed soul? I see people like Amy Winehouse and Joss Stone listed but I never hear them on R&B stations nor do I consider what they do soul music.

Of those listed, I can't live without George Michael's music.

Plantation Radio

Was I too Funky?
Did I go Pop?
Excuse me tor trying
Mind if I Rock?

Chorus:
C'mon all across the nation
I hear Plantation Radio
The nation, on the plantation

Verse:
Too deep for the masses
Too shallow for the chic
Never made T.V.'s
Flavor of the week

Chorus

Bridge:
Everybody, everybody now
Say they wanna be free
But kissin' ass
And trying to last
Is all I see

Chorus

Rap:
Check it out

Radio, radio
Suckers at the radio
I made a hyupe jam
But you never played me, though
We need Lincoln to come and free the slaves again
From the clutches of the radio airwaves
But then again, Lincoln didn't free the slave at all
I'll give Chris Columbus a phone call
But Chris is on a different mission
Like a lot of people in the Program Directors' position
Well, maybe they'll stumble ona new land
And play a funky jam by THE FAMILY STAND
But like Homey say, "I don't think so"
Not as long as it's Plantation Radio

I got a new jam
One yan can't dis
Sounds like the Top Three
On your playlist

Chorus
Bridge

Chant:
Chistopher Columbus, please discover me, discover me
Mr. Jagger, Mr. Simon, Mr. Sting if you're busy
Please tell them that i'm happening so they will believe
I need a Christopher Columbus so i'll win a Grammy

Rap:
Hey yo, bus' it

I know this dude that wants to be the man
He does everything he can
Just to make up a pop jam
But without any airplay it's useless
So there's gotta be a better way

Check it

Maybe with a Robert Palmer remake
That's all it'll take for one of his songs to break
Hey yo Pete, do you got that old Martha Wash jam
So I can sample her voice and I can be the man
And get some little skinny model to lip sync
Hold on a second, now lemme think
I'll be like Milli Vanilli - go win a Grammy
Let 'em take it from me and do commercials for Carefree

Verse:
Was I too Funky?
Did I go Pop?
Excuse me tor trying
Mind if I Rock?

Chorus Out

Silverlakephil,

Thanks for the tip on Pete Belasco. I'll have to check out more of his music and you're right, the similarity to Remy Shand is gigantic... at least on the song that played when I opened his myspace page.

I was initially attracted to Remy Shand through his smooth jazz hit single, Send a Message but found the rest of his album to be rather one dimensional, like he was trying to copy every falsetto tune Prince has ever done on one CD.

Didn't work for me but I felt he had a lot of promise. Too bad he just fell off the earth after that.

My favorite "blue eyed" soul artist is Alice Russell from the UK. I'd listened to her for years singing with Quantic, The Bamboos and some other Truthought label groups and then when I saw her photo recently I just about fell out my chair! She's white???!!!! eek OMG! I had no idea.

Try this clip- poor sound quality but good energy and tres fonkay:

Annie Lennox never gets mentioned in these threads that seem to pop up once a month.

Well, now she has. I see where you're going with this, in songs like "Would I Lie To You?" and "Here Comes The Rain Again."

I LOVE Annie, she has an incredibly soulful voice and her range is ridiculous. One of my favorite songs of hers is There Must Be an Angel.
