who likes WILCO?

I was watching SNL last night and performing on there was a group called WILCO. I had seen their music in the record stores for years but I never heard any songs by them until last night. I was surprised by the organic sound of the group....anyone into them?

I've noticed that all my hipster friends love Wilco. It's just cool, man! Never got into them but have heard their praise sung for a while.

WILCO is one of the best bands in the last decade or so, along with Whiskeytown, which led to Ryan Adams, the best artist of this decade. There are many bands in this organic category, to me the best was the Jayhawks who recorded from the mid 80's till just a few years ago when they disbanded. But that groups leader, Gary Louris has alot of GREAT solo work and has done amazing production for tons of artists.

Damn I wish I knew they were on. I guess I'll have to watch for one of the thousand times they'll re-run the show this season lol

I love me some Wilco! You're absolutely right about the organic sound. They really are rock historians, creating classic tones & melodies. Sometimes they're a bit purposefully anti-pop, which can be annoying. I wish they'd just do a nice easy rocker, which they're so good at.

But basically I grow to like all their stuff. Their (I believe) second album Being There is my favorite. A Ghost is Born has great stuff on it, as does Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. AM is decent, not my favorite. Summerteeth was fairly polished, again not my favorite, though many people might like it best.

I haven't bought their new album, but I have heard most of the songs on various Volkswagon commercials smile, and they sound typically good, and fairly easy to listen to.

Also, the singer Jeff Tweedy comes from another band, Uncle Tupelo, which he shared singing & songwriting duties with a guy who went on to form Son Volt. Those are two bands you might look into, as well.

Also there'a a great film called I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, which documents the making of the album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and gives great insight into the band.

Wilco is similar to the band Cracker. They too have an organic sound and are great story-tellers with their music.
