My absolute favorites: The Impressions (post-Curtis-Mayfield era) The Notations. The Natural Four. In my opinion, these three groups easily beat the other groups mentioned on this thread. [Edited 3/4/08 14:34pm] With all do respect i have never even heard of the notations or natural four. The impressions were okay for a couple of songs much like the main ingredient but not in the class of the groups that are left particularly judging the number of top ten hits they had. It's not even a contest with the ojays, spinners, or stylistics. Don't laugh at my funk

My absolute favorites: The Impressions (post-Curtis-Mayfield era) I love a whole bunch of lesser known vocal groups too, it's just that it's hard to have a thread like this with bands no one else knows Anyways, I love the Ralph Johnson era Impressions. Ralph has an amazing tenor. My favorite album has got to be 'Finally Got Myself Together' It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I have to admit that I only had one of their albums at the time I created this survivor, "The Delfonics" (ok, I gotta admit, it's good enough to merit a position here ), but I checked allmusic, and saw that their essential albums, were released durin 68-70, so they would've been a poor inclusion to a soul survivor concentrating on artists' 70s output Oh and, I just recently got their two earlier albums and a comp to boot It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I gotta give props to one group that was eliminated the moments. I
underestimated them. I heard sexy mama on a old school format on sunday. I had no idea that was the moments. I went out and listened to some of their old stuff. Man them cats would hurt you. I like i do, sunday, lovely way she does, and love on a two way street of course. But sexy mama is utopia. Don't laugh at my funk

I have to vote Chi-Lites.....even though I love "Have You Seen Her", "Oh Girl", and "Coldest Days Of My Life". And "Are You My Woman" is the groove for Beyonce's "Crazy In Love". I like the Spinners, Dramatics, Stylistics & the O'Jays a little more!!!!!

Because their records feature some of the most outstanding male group performances I've heard (and yes, of course I am very familiar with the other groups mentioned on this thread). I don't think the title of the thread says "Battle of the best known male soul vocal groups", right? I think it should be about quality, not popularity. | |

I listened to the videos of these two groups and while there performances are okay. You can't seriously say these groups are better than the ojays, stylistics, spinners, and even a few others in this thread. No i never said that popularity or record sales always determine quality and performance of an artist but i think in this case it does. Remember music wasn't manufactured in the 70's like it is now, so when it comes to these groups i think the proof was in the pudding. Don't laugh at my funk
