Is Madonna better than Michael Jackson

Wooooo, if this was a political vote this would go down to the wire, debating, fighting and protesting. Madonna truly have more hits and has the stable longeavity(if how u spell it) but MJ is just unique!! How dare Rihanna new song stop the music rob both of these all time best. Thats why I love that song!!!

MJ has had more hits in his career ( about 40 US top 10 pop hits and almost 60 US top 10 r&b hits) than anybody except Paul Mc Cartney on pop and James Brown on r&b. He also clearly had a longer career (40 years vs 25 for Madonna). But Madonna is clearly one of the world's biggest hitmaker ever.

Well Rhianna's song is nice, and it was FINALLY time for a dance song to go #1. I couldnt wait for the US to get back to dance music. Hopefully Rhianna will start a outdated trend all over again.

MJ is better in my opinion. I mean he got jams from the 60's - 00's....come on

Maddy is another one of my fav's too, however longevity and musicianship plays a big part in my decision making.

Better? That's too subjective.

Do I enjoy her music more? Absolutely.

Let's face it, neither one of them are Mozart or Beethoven; and when I see these crazed MJ fans going off on these tangents about the brilliance of his work, I usually go confuse . To me, Michael Jackson was something I grew out of years ago. It'd be like watching Rugrats or reading Berenstain Bears books.

I go confuse when people call Prince a musical genius as well.

But I believe Michael Jackson is much more talented than Madonna vocally, musically, etc. I attend a performing arts school and in my history of modern popular music classes, MJ casts quite a large shadow. Much more so than Madonna.

But again this is popular music.

If it was a matter of life and death, I guess I'd pick MJ. His music grabs me a bit more than her's, though they are alright.

Well, this site has always been more receptive to MJ than Madge, but I think a big part of that is that quite a bit of the people here are more into funk and R&B than rock and pop. Many of the rock websites that I frequent are way more into Madonna.

Doesn't matter, not like I look to either of them for groundbreaking music, introspection (Madge has the occasional introspective track a'la "Oh Father" or "Drowned World", but let's be realistic). To me, Madonna is pop masquerading as art masquerading as pop, if that makes any sense and Michael Jackson is flash and pomp and Disney. I guess they both have their place, but I know which one I prefer.

confuse

With the exception of several of my professors who are modern popular music aficionados, no one I know is much into popular music -- funk, R&B, rock, or bubblegum. I only frequent prince.org, so I have no idea whom other forums prefer. As for myself, while I love MJ, Prince, David Bowie, and John Lennon, and some of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, I will take Bach and Stravinsky over any of them.

And I disagree with you about Michael Jackson.

I used to think MJ was more talented, but I think that talent has waned and is almost non-existant. Whereas Madonna has yet to wane off her popularity or talent for making pop singles. I certainly think she has him beaten in the chops dept. It took her a while but she has had a lot of training and it shows.

Yes, you are right. MJ is a shell of the person he used to be.

However, he started when he a child and has been in show business longer than Madonna. When Madonna reaches her fortieth year in show business, we shall see if she continues to churn out hit songs and albums.

Madonna has been in show business since she started Ballet at 12. She just hasn't been famous as long.

Michael Jackson has GOT TO BE the only artist that people continiously claim has lost his talent (i.e. I always hear people say "Oh he used to be so talented before he went crazy" rolleyes). You can't lose your talent. Once talented, always talented.

And as much as I like Madonna, I could NEVER take a thread or topic about Michael Jackson vs. Madonna seriously at all as far as talent goes because there's just no comparison. Michael has always been talented, he is a natural. Madonna is great at what she does but I just don't see how anyone could seriously even compare the two.Michael is just a much better singer, dancer, songwriter and performer, it's not even close. One thing I will say for her though is that she is better at keeping up with the times and is more of a risk taker. Also, I like the fact that each tour of hers is different and unique whereas Michael has been putting on the same show since the "Bad" tour. He can learn from Madonna in that sense but other than that NO, Michael is just an all around better talent.

i think madonna is by far not so talented as mj is. mj would be more popular than her if there wasn´t so much trouble about him in the media. i think michael couldn´t focus on making his music because of it.

I understand where you are coming from, but I do think Talent CAN wane and DOES. A talented figure skater at 20 certainly can't do the same type of tricks at 40. I know that MJ fans don't like to admit that he no longer has it anymore. It's not about keeping current or writing great songs, it's more than that. I really don't think MJ can sing, perform or write a song like he used to. If he coul, I think we'd see some proof of this in someway. Since most haven't heard him really do anything in about 6-7 years, one wonders. He never appears to be in good health, and I think that's part of it too. I think most live in the memory of his greatness, including himself. I think the only way I would be diswayed by my opinion is if he were to really show that he can sing, dance and perform. I don't even care if his new album (whenever that is) bombed, as long as there were decent songs on it that were enjoyable and if he backed this up by any means of a tour, then we'd see.

Michael will always be more talented than Madonna. He was more talented than her when he was 5.

Michael is one of these rare artists that transfixed every classifications.

Michael virtually in 40 years has sang and created in every music style, from Blues (Who's loving You), Soul, Jazz ( I Can't Help It), Disco (Forever Came Today), Psychedelic Soul( Hum Along And Dance), ballad, Acid Funk (I Am Love), Pop, New Jack, Rap, Rock,...

He shared stage with Bob Marley, sang with Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder, Freddie Mercury. Lionel Richie and Elton John opened for him. He opened for Sam & Dave or Etta James. He's been praised by Smokey Robinson, Fred Astaire.

He's had hits in every decade since the 60's; There's to much to say how Michael is light years ahead of Madonna; Madonna can try hard to remain relevant, she'll never matter like MJ, cause Michael is the truth: When Michael dance, you are lived moonstruck. When he sings a ballad, you're almost crying. Madonna can't do that. That's why MJ still sells more records than Madonna without new releases.
