The Overweight Lover Heavy D!

How come I never hear people give props to Heavy D? He was dope. I loved how he fused hip hop, house and dance music. "somebody for me" was the joint. He had a few really cool jamz. Anyone else dig Heavy D??

Right???? giggle I've seen him since he lost some weight and I prefer him big. . . as long as he can still bust a move. lol

It's a damn shame that people don't really dance anymore. I remember going to high school dances sporting my polka dot outfits, with my homegirls (in matching outfits OF COURSE lol ) and doing the exact choreography in this video, as well as, Kid N' Play's, and MC Hammer's (Let's Get it Started is a classic!). We would be so sweaty and musty after the dance, but everybody was, so it was cool. LOL!!! Oooooh, those were the days! nod lol

Yeah, it's just more evidence that music is seriously lacking now.

Even though music of that era was sort of the beginning of the end, there was still culture, soul, and room for everything. I feel sorry for munchkins today.

Get any of those first four Heavy D & The Boyz albums that I posted the covers of (above) that range from 1987-1993. A greatest hits would probably be great too!

"Fun" rap is rarely acknowledged. Outside of that, looking back it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what Heavy D pioneered except helping rap to blow up which isn't celebrated although I think it should be in certain cases like Heavy D.

ok cool. thanks for the tips! i heard his second album is his best. would you agree?? i think maybe he had more hits on that one too.

yeah, people like Hammer and Heavy are often ignored because they were more fun. i'd rather hear them than 95% of the crap out there today though.

His first album is my favorite.
Really, the first 4 albums all had smash hits on them. Heavy Hitz is an aptly titled best-of compilation!
