Jam and Lewis didn't produce it

Oh shit your right. Damn thats embarrassing, as Iam such a booklet/producer geek when it comes to my music collection. In that case Iam glad in a sense, as its not a good track. Cant recall what Jellybean Johnson has done production wise (may of done New Editions "supernatural" but am not sure?), but the production is flat to me. Janet on production duties probably didn't help either.

Ok, pump the brakes hammer pants

First voices, and now you? Wow, any hate on your precious Janet (for only one track), and I get blasted. Surprised alot of people like this track actually, but thats cool if you do, but I still think its weak and I usually love pop rock (or faux rock).

For a song that is recognized as one of her best, yes, I find it hilarious that you would prefer some Hammer trash and start calling this crap! But then our tastes have always been opposite.

This has nothing to do with Hammer. Hammer never made a song like this, so why compare them? If your talking about cred, which so many seem obsessed about, then this is about as credible as Kenny Loggins "danger zone" or Starships "its not over until its over". Its fake rock. I happen to love both "dangerzone" and "its not over til its over", but very few other people do. I lump "black cat" with those 2 songs, and I still dont like it much.

As Janfriend pointed out to me, one of the main problems with it is the tacky production. Guitars sound fine, but the programming is kinda lazy, and its probably due to it not being supervized by jam/lewis. Lyrics Iam not too bothered with, its only a pop song, but compare it to "dirty diana" and its laughable, to me.

It doesn't help that Janet is stretching her already limited voice either. Sounds great when multitracked, but on the verses where it is not, its not too pleasant.

It's one thing to not like a song and another to point fingers at this or that for justification for not liking it. It may be a bit dated now, but it was the shit in '89

Iam never one to hate a track by replying "this is crap" and thats it. I do give reasons, be they valid to you or not, to why I hate or dislike a track. I dont even hate "black cat", i just dont like it and I have given reasons why. And as I also said, its surprising I dont like it considering my music tastes and my loving of faux rock like this and the other few tracks I mentioned.

If you like "black cat", may I suggest the jetsons movie cd? Of course, you and voices and everyone else would laugh as it has no cred, but again, its in the same vein as "black cat" (no its not exactly the same, but its worth a mention). But again, I love some of the teenibopper rock songs off "the jetsons movie", but just cant get into "black cat".

Iam sure you wont even try it, but you may like it:

I oughta email this to Hannah Montana, her audience would lap this song up. I gotta admit, I love that song like crazy.

I like the Jetsons movie because Tiffany provides one of the voices.

Never seen the movie, but I love the cheesy as hell soundtrack. Tiffany quit Tobin right after the soundtrack (Tobin produced all her songs up umtil this point), and never really recovered commerically. Even if she stayed with Tobin though, she woulda dissapeared. As all those teen stars did (new kids, debbie gibson, tommy page etc...)

Tiffanys strongest point was her voice. Sure her music was mere bubblegum , but digging into her albums proves the girl could sing.

I happen to like of the recordings of Barbie and the Rockers and Jem as well as the soundtrack to "Sing!"

I just think you're being harsh on Janet as if to say she's a bad producer and she's not. If you don;t like the production of the song, fine, but then to twist the knife and diss Janet was overboard

Oh yes, ur the only other person I know who loves the "sing" soundtrack as much as I do LOL. I so vaguely remember my older sister watching those gem cartoons, but cant really remember the music LOL.

I stand by "black cat", its just not a good song, not good production, not good vocals. If you must know, I like the bridge, but little else. I dont hate the track, but coming off such a good album, its a definately a weak spot and it doesn't do it for me, despite myself liking other music that is somewhat similar to this. Not everything Janet does to me is God like. And that goes to anyone I like.
