Rick Springfield on OPRAH, about fucking time!

It took years of emails to get this cat on the show and finally OPRAH's producers (i love that comment, its all her own show) decided to give RICK his moment on Oprah, sadly it was just a 20 minute segment that was taped earlier and then cut to fit around Henry Winkler and William Shatner's "new" segments. Though it was good to see RICK get some love finally from a network (ABC) that he has been on and off for years.

As for the interview it was good to hear RICK talking personal about things, made you wish it was an hour segment, but OPRAH of course asked the "typical" question that has been asked by everyone that has interviewed RICK and that is "is there really a Jessie's Girl", oh boy, considering the whole audienve was Rick's, did they need to hear it all again, but you take it what they give you.

As for his performances, RICK tore it up as usual, doing classics "jessie's Girl" and "Love Somebody" and the guy can freaking rock, it amazes me looking at him that he is 58! and looks maybe 35 and his energy is that of an artist starting out on stage playing to prove himself, him and Prince must be hanging out. I think people need to give this guy the props he deserves, not only is her a great artist musician, but human being which is more important in the end.

Rick's charted singles history

1984- Love Somebody #5
1984- Dont Walk Away #26

I was glad to see him on there because I know he was peeved a few years ago when she referred to him or mentioned him in some segment about one hit wonders. I forgot what it was and it wasn't malicious but he made it clear that he was more than a one-hit wonder. Hopefully they made amends or cleared the air. Was good to see what he's been up to.

Yeah it happend a few years back when OPRAH was doing a "one hit wonders" show and her producers called him and basically Rick's people called back and turned it down citing his recordings and chart history clearly showing he's more than a one hit wonder by far, in fact he is listed in Billboard as one of the Top 25 artists of the 80's along side the likes of Hall and Oates,Madonna,MJ,Elton,Joel, Lionel, George Michael and Prince to name a few. I think he personally took offense to it, but i know his fans did, big time.

As far as what he's been up to, i have to say Rick is the hardest working 58 year old out there in Music, he has toured constantly since 1998. Released numerous albums since 1998

Karma 1999
ALIVE 2001
ALVIE (DVD) 2002
Shock Denial Anger Acceptance 2004
The Day After Yesterday 2005
Written In Rock (2cd anthology) 2005
LIVE in Rockford (DVD) 2006
Christmas With You 2007

A new studio record is due later this year also, but it should also be noted that all his albums since 1999 (except Karma and Written in Rock) also received special LTD releases through his fan club with bonsu tracks, demos from the 80's and 70's, dvds, autographs, photos, etc... This guy loves his loyals BIG TIME! And since 2000 ive seen him live 16 times.

And i cant forget his 2007 Digital only single "Who Killed Rock N Roll" which starts out with the greatest line ever. "Rap put the bullet in Rock N Roll's head".

I've always love "Jessie's Girl", and Rick can still perform the fuck out of it! I can't believe how youthful he looked on Oprah's show. Damn, where'd he find that fountain of youth?

sigh

He was my next door neighbor for a while. I only once heard guitar coming from his place, and it was absolutely horrible!! lol But had had young kids, let's hope it was one of them!

Nice guy. The girl up the street was so obsessed with him, to think 20 years later he'd actually move into the neighborhood!

doubt it was him playing, he's a kick ass player, also played all the instruments on alot of his early albums.

It was way too bad to be him, but I did wonder for just a second smile
