AMY WINEHOUSE!!

cool I just got the Back 2 Black CD today. It's pretty good, but it sounds awfully retro '60s. The remixes of "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab" are much better than the originals! I have not heard her debut album (from 2003) but anyway, I guess it would be pretty cool if she collaborated with Prince.
biggrin

I have said this before about her albums.

When I first purchased "Black in Black", I loved it that is, until I heard "Frank". To me the material on "Frank" sounds richer and less commerical compared to what is on "Black". I wished that they had released the first one here in the US first. Buy the way, Itunes is selling the b-sides to the Back in Black, CD.

One artist that deserves the acclaim. Great set of pipes, and I actually like the retro sound. It actually sounds fresh compared to the re-hashed dance crap that is on the radio now.

I remember in 2003 she was getting a lot of media hype, but I wasn't impressed. She was a very awkward performer (still is), and the songs didn't jump out at me. Also her voice seemed a little too reminiscent of Erykah/ Bilie. I thought "Rehab" was a massive step up from her earlier stuff. I haven't been interested enough to listen to her in depth though. But it's refreshing to have someone out there as genuine as she is. There's so many vacant mannequins in the industry that any hint of realness is welcome. Sad to say the industry is already trotting out Winehouse copycats here in the UK who are just more vacant muppets, only with a soul sheen.

I finally bought the album, too, and it's not amazing, but it's really really good. Good singer, good songs, good band, nice organic feel, a good blend of new & old.

She reminds me a bit of a D'Angelo or Badu, in that she captures a lot of classic sounds of old R&B but with updated themes & sounds (particularly the beats)

I think it's unfair to compare her to a Joss Stone who comes across as an imitator. Amy's style may not be completely original, but it feels very natural & genuine.

I really like that album a lot. I played Back to Black and John Legend's Once Again to death.
Frank is an okay album too but not one that I want to hear again and again.

I like what I've heard by her, and I was, at one point, really interested in getting/hearing her album. But since she becamse such a trainwreck, I don't really feel like I want to support that.

No because she's not very good and a dope addict. I like robin thicke, average
white band, hall & oates, the police, etc. So does that answer your
question?
