She did it to Rick James with "Love Is All We Need". "Moonchild" was not altered or anything....just the straight track.

yeah,on many of her songs, she doesn't just use a few samples...she uses the WHOLE DAMN SONG! but I guess we should blame it on her lazy producers.
Wasn't "Be Happy" produced by the non-musician Puff Daddy?

Now, my ass be spending the majority of it's day here in the rec room on level 4 of cellblock 6, commiseratin' wit' all of my fellow orgers online cuz I ain't got nuffins else better to do wit' my time. Bet. I just hope that on the outside, my girlfriend ain't fockin' nobody. But I ainna gonna hold my breff on dat shit of a wish. Cuz I know dat ho' got an appetite for wood more voracious dan dat of a termite. Fockin' bitch ain't got no kind of discipline to be for waitin' out on my sentence an' shit. An' all da meanwhile, all my pimp-ass can do is be here on the Non-Prince music forum, an' be strugglin' to find sumptin' substantial enough to contribute on a fread dat be tryin' to tackle da issue of my girl Mary's musical counterfeitin' an' shit. And after all dat explainin' an shit, I still ain't got nuffin. Damn. It's hard out here for a pimp.

Guys, that was the whole point of the My Life album. Every song samples or builds around an important song in her life. Outside of the actual cover, "I'm Going Down," the album is new lyrical content set to songs she loves. And it's excellent -- still her best. I get that it builds around songs that affected her life, but I still don't like that album. I don't know what it is, but I cannot listen to that album from start to finish. I can listen to all of her albums and enjoy them except for My Life and Love and Life. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I love the rest of her albums- well Share My World is a bit too long also. But I can't get the same feeling from My Life like everyone else gets. And I think many of us feel Love & Life was a bust on a creative level, for the most part. [Edited 2/20/08 8:58am]

I actually think Share My World is better than My Life. But at least on Growing Pains, she ain't used too many samples. You can tell the difference from 14 years ago, lol.

CURTIS' ORIGINAL: MARY J's HIJACK: [Edited 2/19/08 23:11pm] [Edited 2/19/08 23:26pm] It is heavily sampled, but I can still hear Mary J own stamp in Be Happy. As usual she sounds so raw and emotional.

CURTIS' ORIGINAL: MARY J's HIJACK: [Edited 2/19/08 23:11pm] [Edited 2/19/08 23:26pm] She wasn't the only one or the first....Remember Ill and Al Scratch's song "I'll take her", with Brian McKnight? They also sampled this Curtis Mayfield song. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Much of today's R&B is based on samples of old songs....or they use "ideas" from old songs. There's not alot of original ideas out there anymore.
