Greatest Trainwreck in Music? Kurt Cobain--kills self at height of popularity
Britney--no loss of talent, but a huge fall from grace Michael Jackson--could potentially come back, but unlikely Mozart--dead at 35 unknown & broke Whitney & Amy--cracked talent Robert Johnson--killed for messing with someone else's woman? Janis, Jim, Jimi... whatcha think? My Legacy

There are numerous trainwrecks in classical music in addition to Mozart. As for modern popular music, Michael Jackson is up there for sure.

-In terms of popular music, I'd say that Michael Jackson is probably the biggest trainwreck of all time. Only for the fact that I can't think of anyone else who's risen to such heights in terms of popularity and success only to turn around and fall so hard. It's difficult to decide what was bigger, his rise to fame or his downfall? Because both were massive. That's still my boy and everything though but that's reality.
-Britney is a close second. She is a total mess. -Whitney is 3rd for me. The only thing with her is that most people seem to be rooting for her (including myself), I think with the right material she could have a massive comeback. Whitney could easily come back. Unless she's really lost something, In think even with a mediocre album (which is all she's ever done IMO) she'd be back like Mariah. Britney & Michael are looking pretty bad at the moment. Michael, especially. He's actually more stable than Britney at the moment, but will never look human again. My Legacy

Syd Barrett--Leader of the most innovative new British band of the late 60's to disturbed recluse. Still, he's the inspiration behind some of the biggest selling albums of Pink Floyd in the 70's
Peter Green--damn near same story, different band. My Legacy

Classic trainwreck...
...Badfinger ~ Initial lineup changes ~ The inability to rid themselves of The Beatles connection in the mind of the public. ~ Questionable mangagement ~ Legal wranglings ~ And finally, the suicides of members Pete Ham & Tom Evans. (Who even bear slight resemblences to Lennon & McCartney respectively) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 [Edited 2/20/08 14:49pm] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I'll take this in a slightly different and comical direction.
This definitely isn't the greatest anything, but good for a laugh. During Junior H.S., my best friend and I would make trips to The Village in NYC to people watch and raid the record stores. We were generally quite selective in our choice of LPs but due to the list of names on the cover, we couldn't resist this one. Screaming Lord Sutch... ...Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends Jimmy Page John Bonham Jeff Beck Noel Redding Nicky Hopkins All associated with either Led Zeppelin, The Jeff Beck Group or The Jimi Hendrix Experience. But who was this clown on the cover? We found out soon enough once the vocals kicked in. Insipid lyrics sung horribly. Some of the tracks were pretty hot, but the lyrics/vocals... Tunes like Wailing Sounds, Flashing Lights & Thumping Beat are still good for a laugh even today. Thumping Beat Thumpin', thumpin', thumpin' beat That's the sound I gotta reach Ah keep on goin' with that thumpin' beat That's the sound I just can't reach Play it on that guitar real loud That's the way to get that sound Well keep on goin' with that thumpin' beat That's the sound I gotta reach Listen to the drummer pump the drums Crashin' away to kingdom come Crash the cymbals to the ground That's the way to get that sound Thumpin', thumpin', thumpin' beat That's the sound I gotta reach Play it hard on that guitar That's the way to be a star And the fact that what was considered Rock royalty at the time was playing behind this makes it all the more hilarious. I know. The horror.... the horror.... But, in the SNL clip, I love that the band starts "playing" the right track, after she's left the stage. There's a neat irony there: "We know we're her band. We know she's totally busted. But, we're gonna play. Because we're musicians, durn it..."

Now now guys... both trainwrecks mentioned are great in their own ways. As a matter of fact, both 'em are so good, I still can't choose which of the two is my favorite. But the thing to remember is, that, in the thread like this, the intention is to bring us orgers closer together. Not to seperate. Aight?

A clinging shread of diginty Anx: With Entrance Of The Gladiators (trad. circus theme) as the back up tune. It's times like these when I think... ...the trap-door may have been retired before its time. It would have been appropriate during both occasions. Maybe American Idol could incorporate it (with Simon controlling the button) next season. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
