Michael Jackson 'dropped from Grammys' Michael Jackson was dropped from the Grammy Awards last week after his diva demands proved too much for the show's producers, it has been claimed.
Jackson 'wanted to be referred to as the King of Pop 30 times' The Thriller star was scheduled to appear at the Los Angeles awards ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of Thriller, the best-selling album of all time. But his appearance was cancelled after the 49-year-old reportedly demanded that the entire event dedicated to him, the New York Post claims. Among other bizarre requests was that he be referred to as the King of Pop no less than 30 times during the ceremony. He also insisted on receiving a special award that no one had received before and never would again, and wanted a special honoree to introduce him. The pop singer's appearance at the Grammys would have been a huge boost for his recently released 25th anniversary edition of Thriller. The album, which features new remixes by Kanye West and will.I.am, made a return to the UK charts last week, coming in at number three. advertisementAlso absent from the Grammy Awards was Amy Winehouse, who scooped five of the evening's top prizes including best new artist, best pop vocal album. The troubled 24-year-old singer, who was undergoing treatment in a UK rehabilitation facility, was unable to travel to America for the ceremony because of visa issues, but performed live via satellite from London. http://www.telegraph.co.u...cko119.xml [Edited 2/20/08 8:38am]

MJ doesn't deserve even half of the demands that he seemed to have made. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This type of story has been around for years. It´s ridiculous. Even Oprah said she heard about that she wouldn´t get an interview with him unless she calls him that and she hasn´t and gotten the interview. They´re again trying to make some type of sensation about him "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Michael Jackson has always been diva-like and tries to pass himself off as humble, but this article sounds made up, this sounds like the story they said about the Presidential inauguration concert in which they claimed he said he should be the only performer there and nobody else. And their source is the New York Post, and who writes for the Post? I want to hear from the producers, CBS, the Recording Academy.
Also, if this story was true, I would have been headline news or top story pre-Grammys ceremony prior to the Grammys and not a week after.

So far today, I've said the words "king of pop" or some variation of, at least 13 times. Three of those times was to an orger over in the GD forum. So obviously, in those three times, it was in a deragetory sense.

It's bullshit. This story has been recycled a million times over years and years. LMFAO.
While I have no doubt Michael has a huge ego like so many other recording stars, this is just so far-fetched. Awards have been made up for him before, like the Michael Jackson video Vanguard Award in 1989 (or 1990?), but it's still being given out, so it's not exactly a "fake award". In any case, this is a load of crap that's just been recycled from stories published in the early 1990's and beyond. www.maximum-jackson.com

I would love to see him show up for stuff not just as recipient but as a presenter for other people or to read for a special segment. Heck, it’d be nice just to see him sitting in the audience with other performers for a change and not necessarily in the front row either. But then that would make him like everybody else and he certainly doesn’t want that. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I noticed that he rarely shows up at award shows, unless he's sure that he's gonna win something It would be nice to see him show up and present an award to someone else, for a change. He could smile, tell a joke or two and present himself as a human being for once.People would be pleasantly surprised.

If I remember correctly, it was right after Madonna was named MTV's Artist of the Decade, and MJ's ego was bruised. Besides, who "asks nicely" that an award be renamed after himself? Please, it's no secret that MJ has a very high opinion of himself. I'm sure it was more along the lines of a temper tantrum. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

This is a small, filler article by the Telegraph (one step above the Sun). Its source is the NY Post.
It cites no references at all, not even a "quote" from some random Grammy pawn. It's the same story that gets recycled every single time anyone can think of any reason whatsoever why Jackson might conceivably choose to show at an event. And yet a board full of intelligent, worldly music fans are taking it as gospel because "it sounds like him". Wow.
