I'm just now adding some JB to my "collection", which really ain't much of a collection w/o him, is it??? boxed But enough about my shame, I caught a piece of him performing The Payback live on Soul Train from back in the day. It was SO hot!! I needs me a live cd already! So help a sista out - what's the best one???

James Brown Live at the Apollo CD and James Brown Live at the Olympia (Paris, France). Also, I think there's a live CD of him at Augusta, Georgia.

love, power, peace live at the olympia, paris 1971 is a favorite.
say it live and loud live in dallas 8/26/68 is also very good.
all of the "experts" always rate live at the apollo 1961 as one of the best live albums ever. i tend to like jb from the middle/late sixties on rather than the very early sixties, so i would suggest one of the first 2.

I have two different "Live" CDs by James Brown and they're both from the 60s.I'll have to pull them out to give you more details.I think they're both called "Live At The Apollo".One is from the early 60s,and the other one is from the late 60s.

There is a few must-haves:

1. Live at the Apollo (King, 1962)
2. Live at the Garden (Boston, King 1967)
3. Say it live and Loud (1968, contains the original versions of some "Popcorn" tunes)
4. Get up I feel like being like a Sex Machine (King 1969)
5. The Revolutin of the Mind (Polydor 1971)
6. Love, Power, Peace live at the Olympia (Paris 1971)
7. Live at the Apollo Volume 5 (1998, still strong)

Look for the expanded remaster two-disc of LIVE AT THE APOLLO VOl II. The original running time been increased by over half an hour. It recreates both sets of the entire evening -- no editing!!

Note the white band/slipcover that says DELUXE EDITION. Features good notes and pictures.

As I mentioned above,I have two different James Brown "Live" CDs and they're both from the 60s.Here is the info on each one...

***"James Brown Live At The Apollo (recorded on October 24,1962),contains...
"I'll Go Crazy"
"Try Me"
"Think"
"I Don't Mind"
"Lost Someone"
"Please,Please,Please"
"You've Got The Power"
"I Found Someone"
"Why Do You Do Me"
"I Want You So Bad"
"I Love You Yes I Do"
"Why Does Everything Happen To Me"
"Bewildered"
"Please,Please,Please"(reprise)
"Night Train"

***"James Brown Live At The Apollo (recorded June 25,1967) contains...
"Introduction"
"Think"
"I Want To Be Around"
"James Brown (Thanks)"
"That's Life"
"Kansas City"
"Let Yourself Go"
"There Was A Time"
"I Feel All Right"
"Cold Sweat"
"It May Be The Last Time"
"I Got You (I Feel Good)"
"Prisoner Of Love"
"Out Of Site"
"Try Me"
"Bring It Up"
"It's A Man's,Man's,Man's World"
"Lost Someone (Medley)"
"Please,Please,Please"

Both CDs are excellent and capture Brown in his prime.I'm wondering are there any "Live" CDs from the 70s? He kicked ass in the early 70s too!!

Since that song is from 1974,it would only be found on a "Live" CD from the 70s or beyond, which I'm looking for too!

"Payback" has never officially been released as a live version. However, I have some video footage from between 1974-77 with JB performing that tune... he played it uptempo back in the days and I doesnt sound all that good especially since Fred Wesley left in 1976. He still plays it on rare occasions, but as I have said before, its way too fast... nothing beats the album version
"Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany" peace
