Bobby Brown: What happened?

I remember seeing the vid for humpin' around when I was a kid and i got the sense he was a major star. his Don't Be Cruel album sold a lot & produced a lot of hits. He was a pretty cool dancer and had an OK voice. Why was there a huge delay in following up Cruel and also Bobby, i mean that seemed the biggest mistake not following Bobby quicker. I've never heard a full album of his but his singles seemed pretty cool. I like that "on our own" song, they just don't make music like that anymore.

Have you ever noticed that, all of the New Edition guys weren't able to sustain their solo careers?

Ralph Tresvant's first solo album 'Sensitivity' sold 2 million copies in 1991.His follow-up album in 1994 went nowhere.

Bell Biv Devoe's first album was a huge hit in 1990.The follow-up 'Hootie Mac' went nowhere when it was released in 1993.

Johhny Gill's solo album was a big hit in 1990.His subsequent albums went nowhere.

Bobby's second album 'Don't Be Cruel' sold millions in 1988/89.All of his follow-up albums flopped big time.

Ralph had another cd in 2006 "Rizz Wa Faire." The cd had one or two decent songs, the rest were not good.

BBD had a cd in late 2001 "BBD" that did not sell well. I actually like this cd. The songs are so different than the NE stuff.

I am waiting for Bobby to drop his new cd.

It was the drugs for Bobby.

The album "Bobby" wasnt too bad however it couldnt match that sucess of DOnt Be Cruel, even though it was more sucesful than "King Of Stage".

Bobby tried again with Home Again joining the team, but the drugs and wild behavior set him on the downward spiral again. sad

He used to be kinda funky as a solo artist but the same thing happened to him that happen to the funk.....Shitney Houston happened. If anyone has even an ounce of funk in them, she is going to kill it. lol

His 1992 follow-up Bobby went at least double platinum and contained the smash "Humpin' Around".. I wouldn't call that a "big-time flop" at all.

After that though, I don't even know if he had albums after that. Those must have flopped.

He was an awesome entertainer. Drugs and believing your hype (and the two often go hand-in-hand) can derail a successful artist very, very quickly.

Not to mention "Get Away" and "Good Enough." nod

I think he only had one, Forever. Flop doesn't even begin to describe it.

And "Something In Common" was from that album too. Opinions aside, that was a hit.

3 words

new jack swing.

1993 killed it for some reason and r&b became slow and mid tempo all of a sudden. That's why even female new jack swing artists aside from janet toying with it fell too.
