Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story Although started by a white banker and his sister, Estelle Axton, Stax eventually became one of the largest and most successful black-owned companies in the country before it was forced into bankruptcy due to financial and legal troubles in 1975. Stax/Volt Revue - Live in Norway 1967 marks the first-ever official release of this historic concert. Considered by soul music fans to be one of the greatest lineups of artists ever to grace the concert stage, this DVD features stunning performances by Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Eddie Floyd, Arthur Conley, The Mar-Keys and the legendary Booker T. & The MGs. This is great music history lesson for a alot of the youngster on the board who weren't around during the hey day of Otis, Staples Singers, Bar Kays, Black Moses, (just to name a few) and WattsStax. Now, they definitely can get hip to what's really happening and the origins of Soul. | |
