Wham! turns 25 25 years ago, one of my favorite groups of all time, Wham!, released their debut album Fantastic and launching one of the most successful acts in pop history, George Michael.
With songs like Club Tropicana, Everything She Wants, Freedom, Nothing Looks The Same In The Light, Bad Boys, I'm Your Man, Blue, Wham! Rap, The Edge of Heaven, and Last Christmas, Wham! was one of the 80's biggest groups. I can't believe how cheesy the singles from Fantastic were. There's such a huge jump in quality from "Bad Boys" or "Young Guns" to "Freedom" and "Last Christmas", that it doesn't even seem like the same band.
Even something like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" sounds more sophisticated than "Wham Rap". No wonder the first album never really connected with an American audience. I'm the first mammal to wear pants. | |
