Remember when BET was relevant???

This video takes you back to that time...
I remember watching this on BET not really knowing all of what the video was about but knowing that this man was "SOMEBODY"

You'd see Peter Griffin on BET before you'd see Peter Gabriel on there now.

BET hasn't been relevant since the canceled BET Uncut. That was a great show then one day it just wasn't there.

Yeah, I don't know how they could do away with quality programming like that.

I mean where else are you going to see "Time Fa Freakin" or "White Guhls?"

Call me crazy, but are we talking about Black Entertainment Television? I don't recall a Peter Gabriel video being in any type of regular rotation on that channel.

This white boy used to love that channel to death! But now, just like a certain other music channel I used to watch (who shall remain nameless), now they just cater to the ringtone zombies.

Donnie Simpson used to have George Clinton and Bootsy on for interviews. That's when it was cool.

Donnie was definitely the man. He added a certain touch to BET along with Tavis.

I think shit-hop is somehow responsible for this. I miss groups like TLC and acts like Montell Jordan and Mark Morrisson (typo) being played nonstop, along with Puff Daddy and The Family and Ma$e. I guess this would all have been 1997/1998, more or less.

Boo hoo. Music today doesn't much impress me.

Those artists were the beginning of the end of BET.

BET's biggest mistake is cancelling the Tavis Smiley show. He used to have great interviews and commentary. I don't know if they do something similar or not, but they should have kept his show for substance.

Before they canncelled Tavis, they canned TEEN SUMMIT and Our Voices with Bev..they took out the educational value...

oh yes, I used to watch Teen Summit all the time. I will never understand their justification. IMO BET has never recovered as a quality network since.

Some people might cite the very groups that you miss as the reason this particular genre has "died."

Once Robert Johnson sold it, it all went downhill

Teen Summit
Tavis Smiley
Our Voices
the nightly news cast.

The music programming was much better also.

Video Soul with Donnie Simpson and Sherry Carter was excellent.

BET is a shell of its former self and it's apparent they aren't putting any serious money into it.

Maybe that's part of the reason the network went in the toilet -- nothing personal, but Peter Gabriel and BET is something that sounds like bad programming.
