40 Worst Lyricists in Rock--Blender Magazine http://www.blender.com/gu...px?ID=2882
Well, at least they got Diane Warren in the Top 10, but I can think of a few people who belong. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Sorry, but the fact that Common is on this list renders it utterly meaningless. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

Okay. Common is 36
Never trust a rapper in a sweater-vest. Common wasn’t above dissing Ice Cube on “The Bitch in Yoo” (“I heard a ho say you her favorite rapper/So I had to slap her”), but don’t be fooled—he’s also a self-righteous hippie. The principled rhymer’s earnest neo-soul thoughts touch on abortion (“Turning this woman’s womb into a tomb”), social injustice and his own vegetarianism. Worst lyric: “I’m your worst nightmare squared/That’s double for niggas who ain’t mathematically aware” (“Making a Name for Ourselves”) KRS-ONE is 25 Though initially revered as one of the first MCs to wield political messages, the hip-hop pioneer’s raps devolved quickly from shrewd antigovernment observations to crackpot tirades and bizarre diatribes against the FDA and the IRS (“In this particular system everyone’s a slave/Racist is how they want us to behave” from “Who Are the Pimps?”). “Rap needed a teacher, so I became it,” he boasted—but soon found few students willing to show up to class.
Worst lyric: “See, cows live under fear and stress/Trying to think what’s gonna happen next/Fear and stress can become a part of you/In your cells and blood, this is true” (“Beef”) [Edited 2/13/08 11:12am] [Edited 2/13/08 11:12am] Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder

This list is a total joke. There are actually several people in there who have written some fantastic lyrics including the guy they've named the all time worst. Madonna is a far, far worse lyricist than any of them and yet she's completely absent. What a joke. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

That's odd in another thread it was stated Madonna didn't write her lyrics or come up with her hooks or melodies so why should she be included?

Once again you are misrepresenting people's arguments. Let me rephrase that. Once again you are flat out lying. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

It was stated several times in that other thread that Madonna has little to do with the creation of her music. I'm not sure if it was you or someone else who said it but someone said that "co writing/production credits mean nothing to them" I would assume because a "co writer" actually didn't do much. So the implication would be that because she is often times a co writer that she doesn't have much to do with the creation of her music. Did you know 1+1=2 should I provide some complex formula as to how I came up with that answer? Common sense is a gift.

Did you know 1+1=2 should I provide some complex formula as to how I came up with that answer? Common sense is a gift. Firstly, you know darn well it wasn't me who said that. Secondly, that person was referring to Madonna's '80s songs. Her hideous lyrics mostly date from the '90s and '00s. Since this is a thread devoted to lyrics I'll gladly furnish you with some examples if you need convincing of that fact. Secondly, that person was referring to Madonna's '80s songs. Her hideous lyrics mostly date from the '90s and '00s. Since this is a thread devoted to lyrics I'll gladly furnish you with some examples if you need convincing of that fact. Actually, I was responding to so many posts that day in that thread, I lost track of who I was responding to at times. Again, her "hideous" lyrics as your opinion states were also co written with others. So couldn't they just as easily be the work of the co writer since her "good" lyrics in the 80's were largely Pat Leonard's doing according to you? And trust me I'm quite familiar with Madonna's entire catalogue, I don't need to read the bad lyrics she wrote or the good lyrics everybody else wrote for her from her songs to make up my mind on where I stand. Thanks for the offer though!

Yes, the True Arbiter of All Things Hip-Hop, Blender, pulled his card. [Edited 2/13/08 12:43pm] I don't even know Common, but if he's on this list then the chances are he's pretty good. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

As much as I like MJ's music he's always been a crappy lyricist IMHO.

Don't take it so seriously. It's a conversation piece meant to make you angry about the artists you don't think should be on the list, and make you laugh at the ones you agree with. There's no subjective way to measure best or worst lyricists. Several artists that I like are on the list and I'm not the least bit pissed about it. Do you think Sting with his millions upon million of dollars and record sales remotely gives a fuck what Blender magazine has to say? [Edited 2/13/08 19:24pm]

[Edited 2/13/08 19:24pm] Welllll saiid. also, to give a SLIGHT defense of this list, there's a few bands /artists on this list whom I like, even like quite a bit, yet I acknowledge how absurd or even downright worthless their lyrics: Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull namely. Like their music, but pay little to no attention to their lyrics.

Blender was obviously just trying to be controversial with this list. They pic well known, well respected song writers who have written a couple of shockers and put them in the list. They just wanted to stir things up.

Yeah. They once said We Didn't Start the Fire saw the 66th worst song of all time. I believe #1 was not some random song, it was E&I.
