Matthew Knowles responds to Aretha http://www.usatoday.com/l...ueen_N.htm
Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich, noting that Beyoncé idolizes Franklin, says he was baffled. "It was an innocent remark," Ehrlich said. "It certainly wasn't meant to disparage Aretha. Aretha has been and continues to be a very important part of the music industry and transcends labels. That's why the Recording Academy gave her the honor of MusiCares Person of the Year and invited her to perform on the Grammys." Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé's father and manager, declined to get a comment from his daughter. "I'm not even going to take this to her," he said. "Something this ridiculous, it's childish, it's unprofessional. And it's a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess." I wonder if Tina will bother making a response because I think, ultimately, this was a diss to her. Aretha just basically saying "Chile, Anna Mae ain't shit - I'm the Queen!". love is a fate resigned memories mar my mind love it is a fate resigned Over futile odds and laughed at by the Gods and now the final frame Love is a losing game

I also agree with Matthe but would have liked it better if Beyonce had said it, especially the part about it being childish and unprofessional. I don't think Tina is paying this any mind. She knows who and what she is. I hope she doesn't bother addressing this mess. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

What the fuck ever!!!!
When his little brat EARNS and DESERVES a motherfucking title like "Queen" of anything other than "ANNOYING, OVER-SATURATED, YEAH WE KNOW SHE CAN CARRY A TUNE BUT IT'S HIGH DAMN TIME TO SIT HER ASS DOWN SOMEWHERE BECAUSE SHE'S GETTING ON MY DAMN NERVES AND I JUST CAN'T STOMACH WATCHING HER SHAKE HER ASS THROUGH A SONG ANYMORE PSEUDO SUPERSTAR ", then he can come talk to me about The Queen-Aretha Franklin!!!!! Mr. Knowles!! I'm sick of you and your little rugrats!!

Matthews comments are tacky. Tina should be offended more than anyone, and I hate the part when he says "I'm not going to even bring this to her" as though Beyonce is the bigger celebrity and Aretha is Ashanti or somebody. He could have been classy like the Grammy producers, but all I'm seeing is his ego. Studiotraffic-One of the fastest ways to get payed on the net!

Exactly. It doesn't matter, him and his daughter will both be washed up in a few years. They are just milking her for all she is worth now, because they know, she own't be around forever. Aretha will have the last laugh. MJ Fan 1992-Forever

Uh yes and aretha would be right. Aretha's catalogue of hits is far deeper than tina's. Besides tina's earlier work with ike turner what album of tina's besides private dancer had any impact. As far as mathew knowles. Pleeeeze! [Edited 2/13/08 17:10pm] Don't laugh at my funk

There you go with that europe stuff again. Why wouldn't tina be more popular in europe? She fuggin lives there!! So you basically by making this statement already conceded that aretha franklin is far more relevant than tina here in the states. I lost respect for tina years ago in the early 80's when she made the statement that R&B was boring and that's why she turned to rock yet her roots were R&B. She is from missisippi and her fake ass goes to europe and all of a sudden she has an accent. I think the press is probably blowing it all out of a proportion but beyonce should have just simply introduced tina as the legendary tina turner versus giving her the queen title which has been aretha's moniker forever and a day and aretha is not even my favorite female vocalist but she is far better than tina. The diss wasn't at Tina. It was at Beyonce for not knowing her music history like she should. It's basically Aretha telling Beyonce to get her facts right that Aretha is THE only female artist that was giving a real crown! NOT Tina, NOT Chaka, NOT Cher, NOT Diana, NOT Barbara, NOT Whitney, NOT Janet, NOT Mariah, NOT Madonna, NOT Kylie, NOT Mary J, or any other diva in between the time lines.

But didn't a few people say this was basically a quote or near-word for word intro that Santana had used previously? Whatever the case, I don't think it was meant to be disrespectful to Aretha and I don't think anyone would have noticed if Aretha hadn't mentioned it. It's a shame that such a performance has now been reduced to bickering and featured on the evening news. I really think Aretha had no need to be offended. Beyonce has seen & heard Aretha's ego at Level 1, but poor Luther Vandross has seen & heard it at Level 5! [Edited 2/13/08 18:15pm]

[Edited 2/13/08 18:15pm] I've never been an Aretha fan, but her ego makes her even more foul. Just like Usher and Kanye. It's not attractive. Watching it again, she didn't call Tine the queen of soul. She simply called her the queen and that she had all the elements she was listing prior. Aretha doesn't have all those elements

Why can't they just call them legends and leave it at that because at the end of the day that's what they are regardless of our opinions. [Edited 2/13/08 19:44pm]

I would think for all the hate the org has for Beyonce, some of ya'll would've been on Re-Re's side in that other thread "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I know, right? Everybody agreed she was FAT! But evil Beyonce said something and they pitch a bitch. I mean, ok, she's a legend but Aretha was still damn wrong to do that. She shouldn't let that affect her especially since she's 350 lbs closer to knocking on heaven's door at damn young 65.

Tina kicked her ass dancing so much that Beyonce about stepped on Tina's foot. But how's this for ENERGY: Just a day after the Grammys, she went over to Russia and performed a nine-song set for a Russian notable's son and I think got paid in the millions too! And she's almost 70!?! That's why I worship Tina, no one sold concert records the way she did or performed the way she did and the fact that she is still performing in some level and doing a damn fine job deserves to be called "the queen" of whatever!
