nothing, she was always inspired by hip hop and happened to put it on her recent album.

I like all her music, but always felt like she wanted to be more free, and blossomed on Loose

Remember, she used to be in a trip trop group before her first album, and even duetted with Missy in 2001, I always knew she had it in her, although her songs like I'm Like a Bird, Powerless and the like are excellent.

Whoa, Nelly was a decent album with really strong singles, but she doesn't always have to be "multiethnic chick with the guitar" singing about birds and shit -- I think it's wack to pigeonhole her into just being that.

Besides it's not much of a stretch that she's linked with Timbaland, she's been collaborating with dude since he remixed her "Turn Off The Light" wayyy back in 2000 (Nelly was making urban club-pop when ya boy J.T. was still in *NYSNC making Swedish staccatopop). It was Timbo's early '00 work with Nelly that opened up collaborations like "Cry Me A River" & "SexyBack." Plus, "Get Yr Freeek On (Remix ft. Nelly F)" was a party banger in '00-'01. The girl grew up idolizing the same people we do. And she's always been major-label and pop even when she was singing about birds.

I don't know why folks are trying to front as if Loose is this 'big departure' given all that.

not a big fan of the new album either, mainly because I loathe Timbaland.....I o like 'Do It'.....it's got good groove, I believe it's not a Timbaland track...

Interesting you said you shouldn't pidgeonhole acts, but you could also say Nelly whored herself out to Timbaland, as despite myself liking a few of the singles, she cant dance, and the rnb act seems somewhat fake. If the music is cool, then thats fine, and maybe her tastes changed so she wanted her next album to be alot more rnb, but you could also call her out contrived and fake smile
