RuPaul - "B(l)ack to My Roots" I friend of mine wrote a paper on this song when he was a doctoral candidate in family social sciences. Funny song/video about the history of black hair care.

oh oh oh, if we could only get back to that point in our culture that a tall arse black man can become a mainstream crossover pop superstar in drag.

Surprisingly, I would hear this song a lot on BET (in the middle of the day, when people were working, mind you -- I think it came out around Summer '93 during my school recess because that's the only time I could legitimately watch video shows in the middle of weekdays). I remember this video would get decent rotation on BET's Video Vibrations show next to Sean Levert and M People videos. lol
P.S. I used to like Video Vibrations because they'd show black euro-dance and house (in addition, to the standard R&B/soul fare) videos like La Bouche, Corrina, Robin S (even Rosie Gaines' solo ish, "I Want You") I actually got exposed to a lot of really nice dance videos through that show. Also, it was the first time I witnessed Jamiroquai ("Return of the Space Cowboy") and Omar ("Saturday"). All the stuff they wouldn't bother to rotate on their flagship program Video Soul.

Yeah, I used to like Video Vibrations, too. I remember seeing a couple of his videos there. He was actually on Video Soul once and Donny was (as I recall) a bit annoying. But I never liked Donny so doesn't matter.
