Anyone hear of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings? How did this group go by unnoticed last year? With all the Amy's and Pippettes and the 60's Motown sound coming back, I never heard of SHaron nor her band until yesterday. I feel like I am living under a rock. Great Great Music!! Even the packaging has that Old-School R&B imagry. Anyway's if you like Amy, Joss or any of that you'll love Sharon. The music sounds likes it's from back in the day. Christian Zombie Vampires

yes! I just bought this cd last week. Haven't had a chance to listen much, but from what I've heard, I really like it.
Not better than Back to Black though

She's been brought up many a time here. She's good, puts on a good show, and her band is excellent. I didn't catch the Grammys last night, so I didn't see that they were on there. Were they backing Winehouse again?

I recently bought this album because the group that backed Amy ARE The Dap-Kings.I wanted to see their beginnings before I tryout Amy, and this is a great album. For all the folks complaining about " REAL " musicians not getting any play, here's a group that is real and true. When some money comes in, I'll order their earlier albums. Jeux Sans Frontiers

There have been quite a few threads on her here.
IMO, she's sort of the artist Amy Winehouse wishes she was. The Dap-Kings are all over Back To Black. Regarding Sharon Jones (who's been paying dues & kicking butt for years), to paraphrase the great Muhammad Ali, in today's image over substance world, She just doesn't have the connection or the complexion to get the protection. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I don't know much about Sharon Jones's career but at this point and time, she's probably too old to matter, and this is despite Amy's sad crakho, tattooed goose look, which is , oohh... the gossip rags are soiled enough with her trash. I like Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and I like Amy Winehouse. Musically similar but lyrically very different.
