Did it really flop? Time and Time I keep tellin people "DONT NAME YOU ALBUM THE EVOLUTION" (Boyz II Men).

It did feature some hot uptempo tracks.. "Make It last Forever" "I Proceed" "Get Up" "Bang It Up" "Get In Fit In" "That's Right"

However it had waaay too many tracks...almost like a mid 90's rap album...which spoiled it from becoming a very very good album it couldve been

I remember the hype and wanted to like it since I love freestyle from the 80's, but I just couldn't. I heard it constantly at the hip hop dance class I was taking at the time, and just got annoyed by it more and more and more. I do love the song Promise though.

Yeah its really a weird thing, mainly because the way sales are going, the trend is going down and down, i think people have to realize that the "out of the box" million is LONG GONE, the 90's are over, the Pop generation of about a decade ago is dead. Records now are "slow burns" and people just dont wanna buy into these artists (younger ones) unless its on the disney label. Case in point of "slow burns" Rihanna's album has struggled to get to a million despite tons of promo dollars and plenty of hit singles. Its not the 80's anymore where people would spend money on artists album and also buy their singles too, i mean there are tons of records from that 80's that had 3-7 hit singles (actually selling singles) and also sell a couple of million albums too. I think labels are starting to wake up to the fact that they put their stakes in Kids and they lost.

I wouldn't consider this album a "flop" just because it didn't perform as well as her first album. Platinum (1 Million copies sold) is nothing to spit at. "Promise" was definitely the reason for this.

I don't know what this album did but several tracks were on my workout compilation for at least a year.

Maybe if the label had decided to release singles other than the hip hop flavored ones more people would have taken notice.

And I know Janet fans are gonna get mad but despite people saying she can’t sing her voice still sounds stronger and more melodic than Janet on that Feedback remix. boxed

Fuck no... Janet has a distinctive voice, and has much more versatility than Wanda Sykes I mean Ciara. Ciara doesn't even sing, shes talking. Her voice is monotonous at best. Listen to Janet's songs like

The Pleasure Principle
Love Will Never Do (Without You)
When I think of you
He Doesn't Know That I'm Alive
Got til its gone
Together Again
Again
I Get Lonely
Nasty
Thats the way love goes
Escapade
Any Time, Any Place
Rhythm Nation
Miss You Much
What About
Funny How Time Flies
Control
The Velvet Rope
Go Deep
Moist
Island Life
Enjoy
Come Back To Me
Lets Wait Awhile

Ciara makes Janet seem like Whitney Houston.

Look how fresh it becomes when you hear Janet, in contrast to Ciara. I'm a Stanet and proud. Don't let me get mad. This board is full of haters yet the official Janet thread has more replies than Mariah's, Michael's and Eyrakah's combined. COME AT ME DOG! SMH @ all this Ciara hype. I see you Sc0rpian. Traitor. Don't think I forgot your ass.

I like you floetcist, but damn.

Janet Jackson has a mediocre voice at best. But that does not matter, because her voice was an insignificant element of her success. Her Jackson name and connection to Michael Jackson, who despite the Howard Hughes-like eccentricities which emerged in the 1980s, was still a beloved and admired figure and the most well-known popular musician and entertainer of his time, her charisma, public recognition through her roles in various TV shows, music videos choreographed by Paula Abdul, and most important the sound of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were the factors which propelled her to achieve commercial success.

Yep like I was trying to say in that "dumb" thread I started, lol, not every album is a Thriller. Sensing that Janet's albums have been certified platinum, I'd wait before I call someone a flop. Every artist's album sales are struggling. Selling gold nowadays is like selling ten million copies...again.

lol I so feel ya! I was thinking the exact same thing about the Janet thread and how many replies it gets for Janet to not be able to sing, for no one to be interested in her music. For her to be irrelevant and a has been. Folks sure as hell is up in her business. Boy! What an insult!
