i need help with FUNKADELIC and the like... PLEASE don't hurt me. Ok
so i LOVE funk music, but i have like NO catalogue of it, i just like grooving to it whenever it's on so i want to begin with Funkadelic, or the Parliament, or whatever I know it's a long and crazy story where the bands are concerned, but I'd like to find, or know the best discography there is that encompases both Funkadelic and the Parliament (aren't they technically the same band?) i feel like such a tool for posting this but I need help, and I know there are a lot of you know it all like the back of your hands... PLEASE [...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

Hey SammiJ
I think you should start with "Parliament"'s "Mothership connection" from 1975. A timeless classic with no fillers.Just straight classics the whole album thru. There are lot's of other stuff but try this first /peace Manki

After you're done with Parliament/Funkadelic & Bootsy's Rubber Band,
you should consider getting some stuff by, Slave The Ohio Players The first four albums by The Brothers Johnson The 70's and early 80's albums by Cameo The Commodores Graham Central Station The Bar-Kays Kool & The Gang Rick James The Meters Sly & The Family Stone It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Dear Sammi,
Next time, next to posting here, go to www.allmusic.com and type in the band name. Click discography and there; a list you can use. I love that site. They do not have EVERYTHING, but most stuff is on there, with handy quicklinks on the artists' main page; directing you to this artists/band's influences, who they in their turn influenced, comparible bands etc. It's fun. They also have pages with genres, like FUNK. Go play!

Start from the beginning with this Funkadelic compilation Music For Your Mother. it doesn't have everything, but there are some choice cuts on here and the linear notes are nice too. and in case you didn't know the difference, Funkadelic was had more guitars and is more funk-rock oriented and Parliament is more disco and pure funk. Also, Bootsy didn't appear until Parliament.
