The problem is that Teddy Riley had a decade-long run as a prominent producer, which is much harder to swallow. It would be no less shocking if a story came across the wire that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis or Babyface declared they were broke (and Riley was arguably as productive as they were during that span).

The rather sad thing about Riley's situation is that like Jam & Lewis and 'Face he also wrote or co-wrote the vast majority of his material and (last I read) still owns the copyrights to them -- there is no reason why the man should be bankrupt.

Now that u mention it, didn't Babyface go through some financial hardships?

hmmm I never heard about Babyface having financial problems. His last few solo albums flopped, but it's hard to believe that he could have financial problems.

Not that I know of -- the only personal issue I recall was 'Face divorcing his wife, Tracey, several years ago. She got custody of their children, which meant he paid a tidy sum for the divorce, but it's not like he went bankrupt over it.

I agree. If Teddy Riley is broke, does that mean Aaron Hall is living in the projects? The Nasty Man's pockets have been looking like rabbit ears for some time.

After being ripped off on his 1st few projects, u would have thought Teddy learned a few things. I wonder how Julian Jackson is making out?

I've been saying this for years.

Whenever I wrote about Michael Jackson's financial problems, all the Michael fans are up in arms.

The simple fact is...record companies are full of people who majored in accounting, finance, and the law.

Artists specialize in making music.

Two different skill sets. A great artist can often be taken by his or her manager or record company so that he or she has nothing left, or can spend all their money because they never learned any financial discipline.

e.g. Billy Joel, TLC, Michael Jackson, M.C. Hammer, Mike Tyson, Willie Nelson, Will Smith, Pebbles, (and this is just off the top of my head).

Teddy Riley was a hugely influential artist, composer, and producer.

Now you only see his work on In Living Color reruns...

this is true. I am wondering who is going to be the next big money maker in music getting cash young and then losing it all in ten years. some of today's singers are doing that now. plus paying a bodygaurd to walk around with them all the dang time. He will have all their money.

this happens when a artist doesnt learn how to manage their money. he won't be the last one to go broke. cause with all these artist buying jewelry that they don't need and all them cars that they will just let sit around cause you can't drive all of them at once.

I doubt Face had real financial problems.

Remember, people like that define it differently, so if he didn't make a certain amount of millions or if he can't afford to keep all his vacation homes then he'd be crying.

He has about 3394859038458348958348538495 different investments outside of music and entertainment. I'm sure he takes hits, but he's still doing well for himself. And he's been at it for a while too, so...

Nobody knows what happened during Face's divorce from Tracey. They had a pre-nup and it was honored during the divorce (from what I've heard from people that actually know them). I'm sure he had to come off of some cash/investments/property/etc., but I know it didn't break him. Come on, the guy wrote 2 of the biggest songs in history and worked constantly for 20 years. Besides, Face doesn't strike me as an extravagant person. Teddy Riley, on the other hand, does.

I can see Teddy gambling his fortune away.

Face is a musician.

Teddy is a synth muppet. Sure he did some decent stuff, but come on.

And Face saw the bigger picture whereas Ted operated like every other shit hop oriented "artist."

Maybe Teddy should put together a "New Jack Swing" reunion tour.

It could spotlight both of his bands (Guy and Blackstreet),featuring Teddy performing with each band lol Al B.Sure could be the opening act.

Actually the last thing that I heard is that Snoop Dogg formed a band with DJ Quik and Teddy Riley and are remaking a song by The Time.... I forget which song!

His stuff sounds so dated to me now. I don't feel it's aged well. Later stuff I heard him on sounded like he was still stuck in the era of his heyday too. He's a dinosaur.

Possibly. He's on tour also. He recently played Dallas under the name "Guy featuring Aaron Hall". Funny thing is that he didn't have any original members of the group with him (according do dannyd).

I know. Just think, he didn't get any credit for the Today project, Guy's 1st album, Bobby Brown and others. I don't think he is credited on any of these projects. They are all credited to Gene Griffin.

My Preogative sounds fresh 2 me, but My Fantasy didn't age well to me. Now, "How You Like Me Now" (musically) still sounds fresh to me.
