REM's new album "Accelerate". Release date: March 28th (Europe). Tracklist and other info!

Well...does anyone remember REM? Yes, dear orgers, there are great musical acts beyond family jackson members and Madonna. Since I'm one of the few REM fans here, I had the idea to share this info.

The new album is going to be called "Accelarate" and it's going to be released here in Europe (the continent with the best music tast in the world) March 28th. This time, no Pat McCarthy or even Scott Litt (Ain't that a bitch!)....Et voilá, here come Jacknife Lee (that dude that did those remixes for U2 oh...and some production for Bono and the boys)

Here's the pretty cover:

Tracklist;

1. "Living Well Is the Best Revenge"
2. "Man-Sized Wreath"
3. "Supernatural Superserious"
4. "Hollow Man"
5. "Houston"
6. "Accelerate"
7. "Until the Day Is Done"
8. "Mr. Richards"
9. "Sing for the Submarine"
10. "Horse to Water"
11. "I'm Gonna DJ"

Until now the only release song is "I'm gonna DJ". A nice track that can be found on the REM LIVE double album/DVD thingy!

It seems with will be very ROCK, with no mellow bullshit! I crave for a MONSTER PART II!

New single's called "Supernatural Superserious"...it leaked (the single)...so go to ur favorite P2P places!

Very Cool, knew it was done, glad to see a release date. I was one of the few that loved "Around the Sun", great record

It's a great album...not as good as Reveal, one of my depression albums...Reveal was such an improvement from the puzzlesque Up. Still, their true masterpiece after Lifes reach peagent is New Adventures...

The ATS songs worked better in a live context imo. And I'm still pissed that my favorite track from that era, The Outsiders, wasn't a single. It's one of my favorite songs ever. And the Q-Tip bit is priceless. Maybe they feared the Radio Song comparisons.

Yeah UP was my least listened to REM album, i just couldnt figure it out, though "At my Most Beautiful" was one of Stipes classic moments in writing. I think Eddie Vedders speech when inducting REM to the hall of fame, was the best description of REM ever, he really made a good speech.

Up has some gems:

Lotus
Hope (love the crescendo)
At My Most Beautiful
Walk Unafraid
Daysleeper (sleep guitar work imo and what a joy it is to sing that song when driving!)

The songwriting is a bit stiff. Bill Berry had massive input on the REM songs. He's missing...and not only on the drumming aspect.

Bill was a very big part of REM but he did say to them, you better go on, because i dont want to be the ass that breaks up REM. I just wish radio/video was an open market now and bands like Rem could get some play, though they have their loyal followers, they are making music that should be heard.

Up is their best post-IRS album, in my opinion. It is their most heartfelt, least pretentious (despite the electronic forays), and lyrically and musically accomplished album. Only Lifes Rich Pageant is better.

I had no idea they even had a new record ready.

New Adventures is still the REM record i most connect to. I love me some of their IRS stuff, particularly Cuyahoga & Fall on me, but as an album New Adventures is the one i absolutely love. I remember seeing them play Leave live, blew my frikking mind.

Hey Mike- thanks for showing the album cover as I've been desperate to see what it looks like after getting excited about the track list etc.
I cannot wait for this...I don't think you are alone in loving R.E.M.

Those are my 2 faves, too: New Adventures and Life's Rich Pageant. This new one sounds like the first one of theirs I'll be picking up since Monster. Up and Around the Sun didn't really do anything for me. I wonder who's drumming on this one>
