You people are overreacting. It's a good look. Asymmetry isn't just for punks and emos. [Edited 2/12/08 1:15am] No one's saying that it's just for punks and emos! It just isn't flattering on her I think it looks good on her. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Should she be sporting one of those prissy long, blonde weaves a la Beyonce? That seems to be the only "hair" cut anyone around here thinks is cute. I like this one: Short, practical, not boring. The only adjustment I'd have made is to have the longer side be a bit less floppy. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

For the record, I was practically DROOLING over Rihanna's new cut on another grammy related thread: I thought it was soooo FRESH against the backdrop of "ROSS-onian" style weaves we see overtaking the red carpet these days. I don't have a problem with Fanny's cut. I can even hang with her wanting to do a reverse Pepe Le Pew color job if she wants, but... I don't know how to put this without making it sound culturally exclusionary, but.., In black American hair culture, many of us are raised to make sure that our textures match. It doesn't matter if you go long or short, rock a natural, wig, weave, dreads,or relaxer, but- Textures should blend in smoothly, and evenly. To not do so is nothing short of a social faux-pas (at least the way I was raised and nurtured by black women rooted in the deep South, the Midwest, and New-England). The other side of her hair is groomed perfectly, not because of the color, but because it's blends evenly into the tuft she has sitting at the top. I already remarked on another thread that it looked cool on the other side. But the platinum unrelaxed portion makes it look disjointed and unsettling to the eye. It's already bold enough that she picked contrasting colors. Fine. But pick a texture, Chile. You're either going to go relaxed, or unrelaxed. It doesn't work with both. ...and I think the reason why many of us are joking about it as much as we are, is probably because I would bet a goood portion of our moms, aunts, sisters, and cousins WOULD NOT let us go in public with that look and we could imagine the wrath that would ensue if we tried to. Again,it's not even really the color choice for me. If you go to black American hairstylist conventions they do amazing "hair fashion" shows that do "couture" style cuts that are on the creative level of Oscar winning designs for Science Fiction movies! But....the texures ALWAYS blend... Maybe it's just a small portion of us, but I feel pretty safe in saying that the missap our Fan-Fan has made with her hair would be on par to sitting at a lunch table with Mom with a booger hanging out of our noses, and refusing to remove it...but hey, that's just the way I see it
