I don't know if I should pick Luther's or Dionne's. Ain't Stevie's an instrumental since the album pictured is his 1968 instrumental jazz record, Eivets Rednow.

You know ain't nobody thinkin' about Dionne's version "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I'll take Tamyra Gray, actually:

personally I prefer Brook Benton's version, which I believe was the original but I'm not sure. It was included in the Burt Bacharach "Look of Love" compilation anyway.

Okay, so umm... you really think a harmonica can fuck w/ Luffa?? I mean, yea it's blown by Stevie, but still... it's a damn harmonica... against one of the best voices of the last, what, 20+ years??? PLEASE

I'll pick Luther's of those two, but Dionne's is incomparable if you axe me (and you did by virtue of bringint it up at all ). Her vocals are superb on that one.

Well, one of the best things about Stevie's version is that it doesn't have those asinine lyrics. Let's just say they aren't Hal David's best work. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Can't y'all appreciate poetic metaphor? I think it's a good lyric.

The problem is the horrendous, pedestrian transition: HalDavid wrote: A chair is a still a chair
Even when there's no one sitting there That works (quite well, I must say). But a chair is not a house
This mofo just told me a chair is not a house. No shit, Sherlock. And a house is not a home
When there's no one there To hold you tight Again, this is fine. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
