I find that the early material sounds nothing like the later material.
If you're talking about "Word Up" then you're not trying very hard are you.

I think I'm just so thoroughly disgusted by the dude's codpiece and panties that I just can't get into them and it doesn't help that all their material early to late is pretty middle of the road.
I sort of see why some people can't stand P.

Their late stuff is... meh, compared to their earlier stuff. They got killer LPs. Word Up! is overrated as hell... Word Up was their smash r&b and crossover pop hit. That's why if you ask fans of pop music about cameo they automatically assume word up and candy were their only hits. A lot of the early cameo grooves were tighter and cemented with horns. Grooves like shake your pants, i just want to be, keep it hot, freaky dancin, be yourself, flirt, and sweet ballads like sparkle, why have i lost you, i care for you, and feel me. A lot of cameo fans like myself appreciated most of cameo's work before the word up era. Not that word up was such a horrible song but it didn't live up to some of the bands earlier work. Don't laugh at my funk

I've heard some their early stuff a bunch of times, but had no clue it was them.
Their material is stuff I tag "generic funk." There's a lot of bands out there guilty of that junk, some of them actually do have some bangers, but Cameo seems to be all MEH and no fuck yes. shake your pants, i just want to be, keep it hot, freaky dancin,
be yourself, flirt, and sweet ballads like sparkle, why have i lost you, i care for you, and feel me Big pile of MEH
