Yeah, and they got in trouble I think. Damon and David did their "Men in Film" skit and they said Joe Namath was gay opening back up old rumors. evillol

Yes, and it was the first time that any network or cable channel dared to present any serious counterprogramming during the Super Bowl. While Fox at the time knew that there was no way to actually beat the Super Bowl in the TV ratings, they sensed an opportunity to siphon away viewers by going against the halftime show, because up to that point the halftime show always had "Up With People" type shows. The year "In Living Color" aired their own Super Bowl halftime special, the halftime show was called "Winter Wonderland", and while it had Gloria Estefan in it, it was an overblown pageant-style show. Meanwhile, viewers did bolt from the Super Bowl Halftime show to watch "In Living Color", and it drew 20 million viewers, the highest ratings in the show's history, and one of the highest ratings in Fox history at the time, considering that Fox was only available in about 60% of TV households across the USA. The direct result of that stunt was the booking of Michael Jackson for the halftime show the following year, and they have relied on booking major music acts ever since.

None of this halftime time stuff has ANYTHING 2 do with the game. I just wish it would go away and keep the FOCUS on the NFL.

Unfortunately, it has everything to do with the game. Bigger shows means more advertising. More ads mean bigger bids when the contracts expire. Bigger bids mean more cash for the NFL. The Not For Long is a bidness, and now the show and the game are inextricably intertwined.

Yeah, but who the fuck actually cares about football? I can't think of a single person I know who watches for the game. Or knows who's playing, for that matter. Everyone around here just guesstimates when the halftime show is going to be aired, watches that, and gets on with their day.

Granted it's Canada and we don't give a cat's fart about football. Not even our own. lol

You are definitely delusional my friend. Football is america's sport. You go
to any sports bar in the states on saturday during college football season, it's a like a religion especially in the southern states. In the southeastern conference, the university of tennessee consistently put 100,000 plus asses in seats which is far more than tom petty and his fartbreaker club can do own their own and far better than any sorry ass hockey game which is canada's sport.
That bullshit don't even draw higher ratings than WWF wrestling. The only time that shit drew ratings this year is when they played outdoors in a football stadium outdoors in buffalo in the snow. Trust me the actual game is far more important to the fans than some old has been farts putting on a lame halftime
show. Sorry dude but i am gonna defend america's sport to the bitter end.

There you go. The university of michigan's football stadium aka the big house
also seats well over 100,000 6 saturdays every fall. LSU, Alabama,Georgia,Florida, and Auburn all southern universities seat well over 70,000 to 80,000 people on a given saturday during football season and someone has the audacity to say who cares about football. You're trying to convince me tom petty is more relevant than football in the U.S. That is the tear jerker
of the year.

Then that'd make you one sorry loser. I'm sorry, but sports fan or no, it's just a game. Personally I think investing that much energy and emotion into a bunch of grown men who make millions for tossing a ball around or hitting bits of plastic with sticks is a waste of time.

Delusional? I think not. I honestly don't know anyone who foams at the mouth over any sports, football or otherwise. Even those that do play on some kind of team take it for what it is -a pleasant diversion. This isn't life or death, kid. It's playtime.

And that's Dudette, thank you. wink
