^ I respect that you Dig Van Hunt...
Its not my Thang..But I can dig that its yours...I wonder...? do you ever listen to Curtis Mayfeild..?
Sly Stone..?

nod Love them both. Curtis was great with or without the Impressions and Sly is, well, Sly. Of course, Stevie and Marvin are my two favorites.

I love Van! love
he's sexy, his music is cool, and he put on a badass live show
Plus I got to meet/hug him and he was supernice heart

and about him telling "us" to kiss his ass...I feel like that was pretty much directed toward the people who were dissing him, not everybody.

When/where was this?

October of last year biggrin
I met him at the Black Cat in DC and he was sooo sweet

Look, I think Van Hunt is the most underrated artist in Soul music today, PERIOD!

And it wasn't like in that blog he was just ripping on his fans and stuff. He was just trying to put silence to the naysayers and playa haters since apparently there are some out there. Especially here on prince.org. The difference between him and Prince is that Prince doesn't care who he offends in his actions. But Van is trying to put his middle finger up to those who have their minds closed to his sexy sounds.

And yes, I did meet him at his concert here in NYC. And he was a very kind gentlemen. And he even signed my "Jungle Floor" CD. Prince, on the other hand (despite of his title as my musical hero), sent his bodyguard after me when I tried to call his attention.

Prince can be an asshole sometimes. But that's nothing new. Van Hunt is just a cool artist who keeps getting a raw deal. And really, he doesn't deserve all this negative criticism.

I love Van and I think he's a brilliant artist with an interesting take on things. Loved the debut, loved Jungle Floor even more (where he really let go!) and so far I'm liking Popular, though it isn't an easy listen. I'm following this guy closely because he's one of very few who really has my interest right now. There's something about this guy. Love his work with Rahsaan Patterson too.

Funkenstein... 'run-of-the-mill contemporary R&B act like Van Hunt'... I'm surprised if you honestly think that, but suspect you were ramming home a point more for emphasis than anything? Nobody that listens to all that good soul and funk music could hear 'run-of-the-mill' in 'Popular'. lol disbelief

I like van hunt's music. Is his music the best i've heard since the late
80's? No but it is a hell of a lot better than most of this garbage coming
out now. I also liked the songs i've heard from popular and i am actually
disappointed that it got shelved by Blue Note.
As far as his rant goes, i don't have the time or energy to get in a
debate about what his thoughts were. I don't take offense to what he said.
I just enjoy the music.

I never seen him play in Minneapolis yet..or if he did I missed it.

I really hope Van Hunt writes another blog about this forum/Prince fans. That was some of the best entertainment we've had here in a while. Better yet maybe Madonna will write one about us and all her comparisons to Prince, MJ, Janet, etc.
