It's a shame that Seal's "System" has flopped. It's such a great album.

It flopped everywhere! sad I like it alot. I think the Stuart Price production really is nice on this one. The only weak point on the album are the lyrics.

I agree, it is good album. However, I can't say i'm too suprised it didn't do well in the U.S. but I was expecting it to do better overseas because a lot of the songs on the album like "Loaded", "Just Like Before", "System" and others have a Euro-Dance sound to them so i'm suprised it didn't do well over there.

Well he's sold that material to every damn company that exists, so he should still be alright.

I'm wondering if this is some kind of backlash though.

I mean I doubt it, but no sales overseas?! That says a LOT.

Yeah i agree but not surprised by the response here in the USA. Theres no market for him, or anyone his age for the most part. The new Lenny Kravitz is going to get the same kind of treatment here in the usa. The timing of this records release was also bad, similar to the Duran Duran fiasco.

Tell that to Norah Jones or any artist young or mature that quietly sells hella records and gig tickets to older audiences.

It really is odd for him. He's someone who's never been "pop" and has had what I thought was a pretty big and loyal base.

Norah is on a different level than Seal in terms of music, her Music is geared towards a more mature audience, i should know since i am close to her and her band since they started playing gigs in NYC in the late 90's. Seal doesnt have that, he aimed at clubs with this one and clubs dont really know him, his strong point was ballads, Kiss From a Rose, Loves Divine, and now that Vh1 has totally turned into mtv and doesnt play videos for the most part, Seal doesnt even have his target video audience here. Norah will always have her "niche" but she already has started playing the smaller venues and clubs just because she rather that then the "craze" from the first record.

the album is...okay...but does not hold up well upon repeat listening...seal has always relied on a solid single to get folks to get out and buy the album and this one is missing one.

shrug

and stewart needs to burn in hell...horrid horrid production.

But has Seal ever really moved a lot of copies of his albums? I know the second album did fairly well commercially, but I don't think 'Human Beings' did, neither did 'Seal IV'.

Not for the most part, the second one did, mainly for "Kiss from a rose" and what i remember is that Humans Being didnt move alot, IV did better once Loves Divine kicked in, but im not sure what everyone was thinking he would sell, i mean hes moved about 125,000 or so, i think everyone has to come to terms that the USA is not the market it was, records are slow burns, and pretty much 250,000 is the new gold and 500,000 is your platnum.

Indeed. Great artist, but not necessarily compatible with a commercial audience.

It is a good album. One of the few from 2007 I bought. I loved it. It wasn't as good as "IV" in my opinion, but I still enjoyed it. For some reason, I don't listen to as much as I thought I would. I might put it back in my car this week. As I get older, I'm learning more and more sales don't impact if I like something or not.

However, I agree that it is a shame it flopped. I wonder how many more albums he has left on his contract. Seeing as, he released a Greatest Hits right before this disc.

Seal could help promote the album by doing shows in the USA. I checked his past tour dates, and they were all in places other than USA. Here is to hoping for a US tour in 2008. I know it is highly unlikely, but I can still hope.

I love it (except that Heidi duet)

What is a "flop" in the state of the music industry today anyway?

I mean when Van Hunt couldn't finish that last tour for lack of industry support, you just have to ask yourself, who's making the calls and managing the promotions for these artists?

It's such a bad time to put out an album now. Unless you're a teen act with Disney's backing, you're taking a chance putting out an album in this envoirnment.

I wanted to put this album but never did. I might later on.

Well everything is considered a "flop" because people are thinking with the 90's mentality that everything is going to sell millions, and everything is going to sell right out of the box. People always call things flops, Princes last album was called a flop? really? considering he sold 200,000 of an album that was being given out in the uk early, and also the fact that he did zero promo for it, got almost no airlplay or video play, he still pulled in 200,000. To me that is a success.

I like Seal. I wish I liked the new disc more. It's not that I don't like it, I do. It's just that I don't put it on as much as other things. Also keep in my mind, I'm one of the few that loves Human Beings. I do love the title track, System, and the the 1st song. As a whole ablum, it's just OK. Not much depth, for me at least.

I thought it was her best also, and it shows her growth as an artist, as this album was written and co-written all by her, her band is super tight and she is not really concerned about charts and sales, mainly because she never expected anyone outside of her nyc circle to even buy her records.

Yeah there was something about that album that sucked me in more than the others, which i like. I just think it was more intimate. The title track for me is the best thing shes written, just gorgeous.
