Why I Hate Most of Today's Remixes

So I'm not much a fan of today's remixes. The reason being, it seems like for a lot of remixes, all that happens is another artist is thrown into the mix, and the track stays the exact same. Or if there are any new musical elements added, they are far and few between.

Example: Justin and 50 Cent - "Sexy Ladies" That might as well have been a fan made remix. It is just a loop of 50 rapping at the top of it. Lame-o.
I wanted that remix to be hot. What a let down. There are other remixes like this, but I can't think of names right now.

That being said, as much as I hate on Diddy sometimes, back in like 97 or 98, his remixes were AMAZING. He knew how to take a track, keep some of the old so it sounds familiar, but he would add all these new parts, that would make it sound like a new track all together.

That is partly why I'm really excited about Thriller 25. While I'm not a big fan of the remixes compared to the originals, I respect the people for trying. Except for "Beat It 2008" - the new stuff features so many new elements, that they aren't the standard stuff.

Does anyone feel what I'm trying to say?

i do.

one of the best things i liked about the 90s was it's remixes. the House Musix remixes particularly, especially those made by Morales.

even though it's sad he's stopped remixing but i'm glad he's at least still exclusively remixing for Mariah.

Teddy Riley is the king of remixes IMO. He took an OK song like Jane Child's "Don't Wanna Fall in Love" and made it fire!

nod

As I mentioned in another thread they sound like cut and paste jobs. They just add in someone else who's hot at the moment. Rarely do they actually rework the song or add something new besides a rapper. Put some work into for goodness sake.

What I hate about remixes, and I'm talking about DJ club mixes, is that the original song being remixed seems incidental to the remix. The DJ just had this beat track that they were working on it, and then just spliced in some vocals on top.

Most of them have very little personality and very little to do with the original song. I prefer that the remix retain elements of the song. If the DJ wants to do his own completely different thing, make it on your own, instead of trying to pass it off as a "remix".

I even stopped buying Madonna maxi-singles (unimaginable) because of this. confused

even greater if the vocals are re-done for the remix.
