Justin did his pat boone thing with MJ on Justified and did the same thing with Prince on this latest one.

If he can come up with a cd that doesn't just direct steals from another established artist, I'll give him some props.

Vocally, Jt wasn't the strongest in N'Sync.....I always thought JC was the better singer and from what I hear, a better songwriter.

Right on! Finally someone being honest...
Was JCs solo album any good? I always liked his voice, but
his lead single from his solo stuff was awful.

his solo album was great a thought and much more adventours than Justin... however Jive marketed Justin better.

I know people here think jam & lewis and even rene did all her work, but she has definitely had input in the writing too with and without them. She wanted creative control, which is why she is not proud of her first 2 albums. If control & rn were more jam & lewis, janet & velvet rope were more janet. Even if rene is gone, janet still had good album tracks after that were brilliant. And guess what, janet was compared to mj too, but she is not an mj impersonator like jt, she is her own person, I can't think of JT without thinking of timbaland, mj, prince, george michael, 90's r&b, neptunes etc. whoever else he copied.
[Edited 2/4/08 18:51pm]

Exactly, Janet fills a void, that Paula Abdul later also filled. However, JT just straight up copies people. There isn't a need for copy cats. That is why in ten years, all these people who are being marked as "AMAZING" will be a distant memory. I hope the next generation of "stars" brings the originality.

People who claim MJ and Prince weren't orignal in their early days are full of shit. Put on a Jacksons concert from back in the day, Pre-Thriller, and compare that to Justin's early work. You will see MJ doing shit HE CAME UP WITH. Where as, Justin had to have a dance instructor, and copy his influences.

When people say Justin is original, I just wanna bop them! mad

who the fuck said he's original? I wanna smack them LOL they just think he is cause his voice is what they consider pretty.

And the funny thing is, even when janet was doing her own thing, I couldn't hate on paula, jody and karyn for doing the same thing as her, or very similar to her, they were all their own person through it all and exceptionally awesome at what they did with that talent.

All arguments about "artistry" aside, the concert was brilliant (being there was unbelievable) and the DVD is awesome. The concert was very tight, professional, wonderfully produced and probably far better than anything I have seen in a long time. It was very original as well. Really, an all round, awesome experienced and very well captured on the DVD.

Justin is good for entertainment value. He also lists Prince as one of his musical heroes as well. smile

Exactly; nice to hear from someone with sense.

Thank you. smile

I said the SHOW was original, not Justin himself. He is far from original. But compared to any other shows I have seen, Justin's show was original. (The set up, production, etc)

My bad, but one last time for the record, Justin isn't original. Just so there isn't any confusion. lol

Puh-lease. Maybe a "few" of the moves, but by and large, Prince isn't a dancer. He is a musician. As for Michael, his moves have gone way beyond the stuff JB and LR were doing. He has evolved to become original. That is how it should be. Unlike Justin, Usher and all these people just straight up stealing Michael's moves and bringing nothing new to them.

Little Richard demanded it from everyone.

lol

There's a difference of being heavily influence and pretty much directly lifting from another artist.

Justified - Michael Jackson...from the look and everything

Future whatever - Prince/Minneapolis period....oh and lets get some of the same musicians to tour with him....lol

and yeah...prince had Maceo....that's not about mimicking though....musicianship.

I don't get it. You said...
he surrounded himself with quality musicians (mike scott, j blackwell) some pretty good back up singers and some adequate dancers. he can even play a coupla keys on the piano and hit the basic chords on the guitar.

Then you said...
after watching the dvd, i must say...this was one of the best complete concerts i've seen other than prince in quite a while (and i've seen quite a few).

You assessed it with pretty much mediocre praise then say it's one of the best you've seen in a while? confuse I'm not knocking the show - I've never seen a JT performance - I just don't understand how that all adds up to a great show.

But his music wasn't a direct lift from JB.....don't recall anything Jb did sounding like Sister.

Everyone has an influence and may even borrow this or that...but JT just isn't an original in regards to anything he's doing.

At least Prince has is own thing, even with borrowing from JB and others.

You know you're arguing with someone who has Milli Vanilli in their avatar, right??? And they're not using it ironically.

You can call Justin a poser and a puppet, but anyone bigging up Rob & Fab, the ultimate posers and puppets shouldn't be able to talk. At least we know for sure that it's Justin's voice we're hearing on the album.

I think the kid (who's 3 years older than me) puts on a pretty damn good show. He has top notch musicians, singers, and dancers backing him up, and that gives him some credibility in my eyes.

it was complete because the parts added up to a nice whole. he's not the best dancer, the best musician or the best singer--but what he did was bring it all together for an entertaining show. the songs all had a live feel to them, not just identical reproductions of the cd. i don't get why so many peeps won't give the guy his due props--he's a very good entertainer and the show was well produced. the singers were dressed nice, the band was dressed nice, and they didn't spend $1,000,000 on a bunch of special effects. the kat played the piano and guitar--which is more than 98% of today's artists are doing. twocents

I do agree. But Justin does try.
lol He dances the choreographed stuff a lot better in this show. Eg, Like I Love You, Rock your Body, etc... His solo dance spots just didn't look as good.

I also have to admit, the moves looked better in the flesh... I don't know if it's how they captured it on camera or just the fact I was all hyped up on the night. lol
