Britney's Music Appreciation Thread

I'd prefer if haters kept out of this thread if they could)

Yesss, I know she's not the world's best anything but I've noticed quite a few fans of her work on here so why not?

I think a lot of her music is ruined by her image, as in people can't listen to her without thinking of all the shit she's done which is understandable but some of her songs really are top quality & its a shame they go unnoticed.

Plus, since she finally seems to be taking a positive approach to her life, why not have a positive thread for once? Remembering what made her so famous in the first place!

Here's a few of my favourite songs of hers, most are album tracks, outtakes or bonuses :

Someday (I Will Understand) from the 2004 Chaotic DVD :

(She wrote this song two weeks before she found out she was pregnant with her first child).

And Then We Kiss from the 2005 album B In The Mix (The Remixes) :

Touch of my Hand from the 2003 album In The Zone :

Shadow from the 2003 album In The Zone :

(^Was meant to be the first single til effin' Madonna got on board, then the damn thing never even got released).

State Of Grace - an outtake from the Blackout recording sessions around 2006 :

Let Me Be
from the 2001 album Britney :

Freakshow from the 2007 album Blackout :

Everytime from the 2003 album In The Zone (chose a different video because I don't like the official one) :

Breathe On Me from the 2003 album In The Zone :

As you can see I mostly prefer her quieter, more subtle songs than the brash sexpop she's known for. Freakshow not included biggrin

Post your favourites if you have em.

As far as I am concerned, this is her best song.

I´ve tried to fix it, but it still doesn´t work. I don´t know why.

I think she is a good singles artist.

Whatever one might feel about her as a person and as a recording artist, one has to admit: some of her singles like Toxic and Baby Hit Me One More Time are fantastic.

I'm not a huge fan of her music, BUT apparently a lot of people really respect her.

I heard on the radio yesterday Britney won the NRJ award for Blackout.

I do think Britney has talent... a lot of talent...even though her music isn't my cup of tea.

When she recovers, and IF she wants to resume her career, she just needs to move far away the hell from L.A.

Do you all think New York is better? I do.. I think she should move her professional location to New York, then have another residence as sort of a retreat to where people aren't feeding-off her all the time.

At her height, she was a great entertainer. When she is on, she has great stage presence and knows how to entertain a crowd. With her limited musical talents, she was able to do something with them. Too bad the leaches around her took advantage of a sixteen-year-old and projected her as a Lolita-like female.

I hate her voice and how she tried to copy the jacksons but everyone thinks she copies madonna. Some of her songs are good though I give the writers credit and not her, cause they should have gone to someone with a better voice. I really like:

Every time
Satisfaction
Shadow
Drive Me Crazy
Sometimes
Stronger
Touch of My Hand
Outrageous
Hot as Ice

The few Britney songs that I like are:

Toxic
Slave 4 U
Early Mornin'
Gimmie More
Lucky
...Baby One More Time

And yeah, Britney has always reminded of Janet Jackson more than Madonna, except not as talented.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Blackout has got a lot of praise around here. The lower she goes though it begins to feel like I'm dancing on her grave. This sounds lame but I want Britney to have a happy ending.

If you want my opinion, she can't sing her way out of a wet paper bag. There's so much digitizing and backup singers, it's ridiculous.

Where I do find her talented is dancing/choreography/stage presence. She does (or did) put on a great show.

she did not have writing credits for every time, I looked in the CD and it wasn't there. It's too bad her voice sucked in Shadow, it's such a good song

I do not understand.

How can you be a supporter of Janet Jackson and think she is much more talented when she and Spears are on the same level as far as talent goes? Both are choreographed dancers, both are mediocre to poor vocal talents, both depend on the music video medium, both have sold around the same number of albums and singles around the world, etc.

Both have sung great dance songs. One would think from reading your posts that Jackson was Mozart and not a dance recording artist like Spears.

lol @ the "can't sing her way out of a wet paper bag" comment.

I like "Toxic", "Anticipated", and "Lucky"....that's about it. I appreciate her producers, songwriters, choreographers, and stylists for making her songs and videos make her even relevant as an artist. The majority of her popular songs and videos were done by other people with minimal if any output from her, so I appreciate the work that those people did. She is a good entertainer thanks to all the people in her corner. I'm not a hater, but I'm not a dreamer either. She's always been an image used to promote good pop songs and she does a good job taking directions.

Britney copied a lot of things janet has done already, from dance moves to costumes/clothes(see onyx tour) to video sets to concert sets. Janet's voice aint the best either, but she did it before Britney and it's not fair how people can't stand Janet but love Britney thinking it's all her that did it and don't normally spot a janet jackson influence when it's already there. At times I wanted to like Britney, but her nasally voice gets on my nerves, even if she has okay songs here and there. I think Britney is like Elvis and STEALS! I liked a couple of her songs here and there, but she didn't make me go OMG OMG, cause I'd seen it all with janet and other r&b/hip hop stuff from the 80's and 90's, and see her as a puppet. I liked In the Zone, cause it was different and there was improvement here and there, I'll give her that, but she's still overrated overall and don't understand why there is still so much hype over her, and what is so special about her that the paparazzi follows her everywhere, or rather she invites them everywhere.

Shes actually got some good songs. My favourites are "Hit me baby, one more time, I'm a slave 4 U and Toxic.
But the press really need to leave her alone. They pick on her because she is a working class white girl from the Southern states and a former Christian. Even here in NZ, every day its Britney this and Britney that. The negative publicity has affected her comeback even. Why dosen't Amy Winehouses career sink then, shes had two hit singles and everyone thinks shes the new Madonna. Shes a crack whore for Gods sake

That's probably got to do more with the fact that when Britney first came out, Janet didn't really have any big hits. All the focus was on Britney and her fanbase at the time was 9-18 year olds, not exactly Janet fans at that stage I imagine. Ya gotta remember people remember the most recent stuff and in terms of "good dancer/great shows/average voice/good image" Britney is always first to come to mind because she's the most recent to succeed in that area.

At times I wanted to like Britney, but her nasally voice gets on my nerves, even if she has okay songs here and there.

She doesn't do that much anymore. Some of her older songs are full of it but nowadays, you don't hear it much. On Blackout, the only "nasally" sung track would be Toy Soldier, which ruins the track in my opinion.

I liked In the Zone, cause it was different and there was improvement here and there, I'll give her that, but she's still overrated overall and don't understand why there is still so much hype over her, and what is so special about her that the paparazzi follows her everywhere, or rather she invites them everywhere

The paparazzi follow her because she fucks up so much and that's where the money is - in the scandal and the shock. Britney is, or was, full of surprises and you never knew what was gonna happen next so the paparazzi just followed her 24/7 to make sure they didn't miss anything. I'm using past tense because she's just put her house up for sale and there's rumours she may go back to Louisiana soon so hopefully the huge pap crowds will be a thing of the past soon.

Give Blackout a try though, you might be impressed.

The negative publicity has affected her comeback even. Why dosen't Amy Winehouses career sink then, shes had two hit singles and everyone thinks shes the new Madonna. Shes a crack whore for Gods sake

I guess because she's got a better voice and probably has a lot more input in the studio. She also doesn't have two children so...

janet had hits with together again and i get lonely. I remember people liking those songs and even had several friends who owned the maxi singles, but I also remember people all of a sudden not feeling her at all. They were saying she's gay and bi and a freak and too old and all this stuff, and preferred the backstreet boys, spice girls and britney over her. I was 14 at the time of Velvet Rope and was really feeling her and also her back catalogue, but I also remember how hard it was to find a friend that could go to the velvet rope tour with me, cause they wanted to see hanson, p diddy and people like that and I couldn't imagine why. I ended up asking my cousin in her early 20's to go with me and she agreed cause she loved her during the RN and janet.era and had a friend who went to the janet. tour and would have loved to see her again, so we all went and had a blast. They seemed so impressed that I was young and totally into janet, though I was 15 by the time the tour came around. My cousin has a sister my age and she was totally into those boy bands and thought janet jackson was too old, and I really couldn't relate to her though we're 4 months apart. I tend to look at it in a way that if these people were old enough to have been around when janet was at her peak, surely they could give her props even if they aren't fans, but they won't even do that! They just think she's not all that because of her recent work not being exceptional like from control through janet.

I knew many people were into janet during the janet era and still remember that time, but think britney has outdone her or something, it makes me sick. It wouldn't have been so bad if britney didn't copy a lot of things janet did already, but she did copy her a lot especially in the beginning and that's what annoys me cause kids can't see through that.
