Kravitz plans to release his funk project later this year In case some of you are interested in this informational tidbit:
On an interview published in Helsingin Sanomat (Finland) on Friday, Lenny Kravitz says he wants to release his funk album perhaps later this year. He had planned to include it as the 2nd disc on his current studio record "It Is Time For A Love Revolution", but the label had been worried about the current climate being not too fitting commercially for double albums. The funk project has been in the making reportedly since 1997. He also expressed once more his love for retro sounds and equipment he began utilizing already on his first record "Let Love Rule". He also admitted that some of the experiments with modern techonology he has done on his past several releases were failed experiments and he was personally unsatisfied with the results.

Man please. Lenny's been talking about this "funk" record since 1995. At this point it's almost like he's crying "wolf'.

Exactly He should stop making these ridiculous promises.Either release the damn thing,or don't talk about it at all.

I won't bitch about the wait. I'll be quite pleased if it comes out at all, and a Kravitz double disc would be totally cool. Unlike Prince, Lenny gives two shits about doing things the right way and that takes time.

I truly hope he does release it. The last time he promised, he put out that shitty Baptism album. I've been a loyal fan ever since the beginning, but I didn't even buy that one. Really like the new one, though.

No, but the interesting part is that he had wnated to include it as the 2nd disc himself. Reading the interview (in Finnish) it was also interesting how honestly he expressed his disdain over some of the more modern sounds he has tried on his last few records, and even went on to describe them as not working that well. That's quite an honest a view from any musician.
