I don't know who the bigest wackos are. People who think those may be his kids, or people who know they're not his kids, and still can't see how it connects with his whitened skin. Any sane person can see they are signs of the same thing. This dude does not want to be black. He lies about his kids and expects people to believe it, and he lies about his skin and expects people to believe it. His self hatred is of course his own problem, but it's also an insult to his entire race.

Okay, if that's the case, then asked yourself, why? Why is it that he identifies, with a race that is not his own. Could it be that most of his actions and his music have been more accepting to the white audiences than to the black? Let's face it, whenever he has done something that was a little strange to us here in the states, the people abroard did not seem to care.....all they cared about was his music. Unlike some of us here in the U.S., who only seem to care about dumb shit like this. It's no wonder he feels the way he does...

And, I guess this will be my MJ-race post for 2008... well, for this quarter, at least.

The reason so many black Americans get upset over MJ's surgery, lying about white kids being his progeny and continual rumors of molestation is that we remember his roots. We remember him being part of the soul of a bygone musical era.

When he was a little, curly-headed, round-nosed mini-James Brown performing with his brothers, when he grew up and the oversized Ebony showed pictorial tours of the Jackson estate -- he and his family represented a real, famous black American success story.

So, in very real cultural terms, yes, we felt invested in not only his success but in his acknowledgment of those black American roots.

He has spent the past twentysomething years distancing himself from that cultural identity, for whatever reason, and it's painful to watch. While others see a misunderstood superstar genius, we see a man who clearly has lost his mind and identity.

Do you know that what MJ did with the so-called Beatles catalog in the mid-1980s? The fact that this catalog consisted of music by black Americans in addition to the "sacred" Beatles music was, of course, not widely broadcast in the mainstream media. He gave these African-American popular musicians, a number of whom including Little Richard were broke, their publishing rights back.

Why is this not more discussed or known?

And btw, personal or cultural identity does not revolve around one's racial identity alone.

I'm glad he did that. Awesome of him.

MJ's not the only black person to have vitiligo. I have friends and family who cope with the disease.

Some who have it wear makeup that preserves the appearance of their original skin tone. Michael didn't. OK. His choice.

A number of people have gotten nose jobs. Mike has had his filed down into oblivion. OK. His choice.

A number of people adopt children. It's a great thing to do. woot! Michael pretends his white kids are his progeny. OK... His choice...

I never suggested that racial identity was a primary determinant of someone's cultural identity. But you take the aggregate of those actions, and it's obvious what carries more cultural weight with MJ.

Black Americans aren't hysterical over this -- we just would like certain fans of his to stop denying what he's done to himself and what the logical implications of that are.

OK.

Thank you for giving me a reasonable and calm response.

As for your last point, I do not think that will ever happen. In this very thread, there are some hardcore fans like TotalAlisa who think those children are not his, and then there are others who disagree.

You can't see Michael in Prince at least? Not only his eyes but to me he has a darker skin tone. He's like a light brown more than a white.
[Edited 2/1/08 20:05pm]

Michael Jackson and his siblings are actually 1/4 Native American. Perhaps his children embody some of those features?

This thread is so ridiculously racist, and those of you arguing don't even realize it.

Being Black is not about your skin tone.

It is offensive to argue about the race of the children, and it is offensive to argue about whether or not Michael Jackson is truly their father. For any other human being, this sort of discussion would be offensive. However, Jackson brings this all upon himself, and does so in a brilliant fashion.

Vanilli said:

I'm sorry ya'll but just because Michael is a public figure, doesn't entitle US to know if the kids are his or not? I don't care if you are his biggest fan or biggest critic, you have ZERO right to know.

It is Michael's family, and I think it is just cold when fans or haters alike feel like, because Michael is in the public eye, they have some right to discuss his kids.

You are wrong and right at the same time. Being in the public eye does not entitle the world to know everything about you. Michael Jackson has been in the public eye since he was a child, and he wasn't really given a choice then.

However, I do think that Jackson has a greater hand in generating this kind of controversy than most of you realize.

Michael Jackson's FREAKINESS adds another dimension to his legendary persona. Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.

The FREAKY Michael Jackson is always debatable, with at least two clear positions that seem perfectly legitimate. This aspect of his artistry is one of the things Michael does better than anyone else. Michael Jackson paints his own portraits.
-Michael Jackson has vitiligo vs. Michael Jackson is a self-hating black man
-Michael Jackson is the biological father of his children vs. they Michael Jackson is not the biological father of his children

Jackson wants you all to speculate over whether the children are his or not. In fact, he probably arranged/sold the photos himself.

Michael Jackson is reminding us that he is still around by revealing his children's faces, just before he releases his THRILLER album again.

Michael Jackson is a genius. While he has many of you all either looking down on him as a FREAK from your PC or defending him relentlessly, Jackson remains in control. Jackson has you spending your time talking about him.

Really, I can't even argue, the dude's transformation has been sad. I still love and dig his music though. And he's obviously still black as far as identity. Blame it on vitiligo, wigs and surgery for making him look like this.

Michael Jackson is a perfect example of how fixated on appearances America is. The fact that half you cannot and refuse to accept him as the same person he was in 1978 just shows how much appearance means everything to some people. Michael still acts the same, is still as amazing, is still as talented. I think people need looking at if they think a change in appearance changing the person completely.

No, I mean, it's noticeable, lol, but it doesn't make him a different person. A lot of people act like the 1978 black kid is a different person to the 2008 white questionable. But he's the same guy and I think it's just stupid to say otherwise and it shows how shallow you are.

I guess because she still has her pigmentation, she can get away with saying that?????

Yeah,I have that Quincy Jones book.I was surprised by what Tina said, but considering what she went through with Ike,perhaps it makes sense? Maybe she didn't want to be in a movie in which a black woman is mistreated by her black husband. She already went through that in her real life.

Once again it's another predictable thread on the org concerning Michael and his kids. Sure, it does seem highly unlikely that two of his kids would turn out looking totally white (and I say two kids because the youngest one does not look completely white to me), but with that said NONE of you have any proof concerning the paternity of those kids. I don't care how right you think you are, the fact of the matter is that ONLY Michael and Debbie know the deal and unless you were there or you've seen a paternity test, then shut up already, damn! lol.

But personally, I don't care if the kids are his or not anymore, all I know is that Blanket is one of the cutest kids i've ever seen lol. I want more pics of Blanket, he's adorable.
