Lenny Kravitz "Its time for a love revolution" mini Review

Im not going to get all Deep and detailed here..
I have the album and I have listened to it a few times through...
I wish I could give an exciting review but I dont personally find anything to get excited about...
It sounds like Lenny Kravitz..
Not the hungry Raw and fresh Lenny of ...Let Love Rule - 5
Its the Dude after that..

The same ol Lyrics that make you wonder is he of a Limited intellect..? or does he just break out a rhyme dictionary and string words together...?

The music is the same ol same ol as well...
Zepellin riffs..

Piano based John Lennon circa "plastic ono band" ballads..

a funky beat or two...

a few preachy 70s rock anthem types o jams..

a reggae track that might as well be "eleutheria" off the Are you gonna go my way album...

a James browninsh rock jam..
"That means a JB beat with rock guitars" "think LED ZEPPELINS "The Crunge" but not even nearly as good.

and a handful of things that sound like Blatent rip offs of other tunes..a Stones riff..a Cheesy 70s pop/rock jam...ect
16 tracks in all.

If you like Lenny post "5" Then this is a no brainer...Go Get it ! But if you are looking for something new or fresh from him ..Or the types of Grooves we having been hearing for years will be on his FUNK album...IT AINT HERE !

The single "I'll be waiting" stands out as a good song in this collection..
But Im sure most will agree with me that its basic Lenny by numbers.
My feeling is..At least he's trying to keep live musicianship alive..
But, Damn..Doesn't he get tired of doing the same thing over and over again..?
hmmm

Thank you for the review. Plannin on checkin it out on iTunes but probably won't spend more than 2$ on tracks total. His 2 songs, "Bring It On" "I'll Be Waiting" or whatever are boring as hell.

I really really really really hope that FUNK album happens next.

Already expressed my dissappointment on one of the other threads(and censored myself on yet another), but I will say this again.. What's up with the drumming on this album?!! Itsounds like he's playing the kit with one hand. No hi-hat..just kick-snare..kick-snare with a cymbal crash every now and then. I hope thats him on drums. I sincerely hope that a session drummer wasnt payed for this.

I like the spirit of what he's trying to do with the love vibe and all. I really do. It Just doesnt stimulate me at all, and he doesnt sound particularly inspired either.

I was with up til 5( which may be his best IMHO), but after that...no thanks.

As of this thread (trust me, I now believe he's that dull and generic enough to not warrant even checking for myself) I'll be removing his songs from my mp3 player and selling my CDs of his.

There are too many much more talented unsigned artists out there who should be making stellar innovative but accessible albums for this to be allowed as the norm in the major label music industry. Having dealt with the decision makers in the industry myself, it's no surprise that he's still making shit records and it's amazing that genius like Prince or Bob Dylan EVER got signed... I guess it was a different time and cats like Lenny got in when the music industry execs decided it was all about using their gut to call shots and not their head, where their ears are located.

Lenny Kravitz shmavitz..

The drumming bugged the hell out of me! Very elementary and bland. Alot of the music felt the same way. Just uninspired, uninteresting and predictable. There's one song that drags so bad I figured he had to be the only one playing on it because anyother musician would have fallen asleep. At one point I thought 'no wonder Cindy left'.

I have all of his albums but I think this may be the beginning of me not feeling the need to buy them anymore unless they are exceptional. At this pace, I’m even hesitant to get excited over his much talked about funk project. I don’t know if dude can really bring it anymore.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

After "5" pretty much all of Lenny's records are the same. Musically they're decent but lyrically, HORRiBLE! I've been saying for years that Lenny needs to take a break and refill his creative juices then come back fresh and start saying something again, but i don't see that happening. He seems more content to be a rock star than an artist. confused

So funny, I've been saying this about Lenny eversince 'Mama Said'.....everybody was saying I'm crazy,....seems like it took y'all 6 extra Lenny-albums to find out wait I already knew.....

but then, he deserves a bit of sympathy.....you try and write a good album after 3 years without any sex! hah! giggle

I have the album and let me just be honest - it's not good. I hate the ABC rhyming pattern of his lyrics and the music all sounds like something that I have heard before. Lenny has not made a great CD since "Circus" and that was 13 years ago. Either he has gotten lazy with his talents or maybe the creative well has run dry. I agree with many people that he needs to drop the "Funk" project and quit making this hogwash that he's producing. That's three CD's in a row that have not been good and dude needs to really come with it.

I believe the album only has 14 tracks. I know what version you have. Track 15 is Uncharted Terrain is a bonus track from Baptism. It's the reggae track you mentioned. And track 16 is Confused, which is a b-side from Circus era.
I saw 16 tracks and thought it was pretty cool and then realized those last 2 tracks were previously released.
As far as the new album, I've listened to a few tracks. It's OK. Not bad, not great. I'll listen then report later. cool

Well i think Lenny is similar in respect to even Janet and Mariah. This just might be all they have to give as artists, maybe we're expecting something that they are not gonna deliver. I mean Lenny is stuck in this groove, Janet is stuck in this "im sexy" groove and killing us with interludes on her cd, and Mariah cant shake out the midtempo in her and is never gonna deliver on another level, i just dont think any of them have it in them at this point.

I've heard the whole album online and I think it's a great album.

I'm loving Love Revolution/GoodMorning/Love Love Love/I'll Be Waiting/This Moment Is All There Is, but I thought the entire album is great, no bad songs.

Guess I'm the oddball on this thread but for all the Lenny fans, the album is great. Listen for yourself.

Like I said on another thread, I've heard a few songs and not bad, not great. Although I am diggin the new stuff more than Baptism thus far.
I like Lenny. Seems he'll never reach Circus and all that before it but I still like him. It's not rocket science. It's just music. People are really hard on him around here. I'm gonna listen in full tonight and then give my 2 cents.
BTW, anybody know what the DVD will contain that comes with the CD at Best Buy?
For those who care. wink
