Diana Ross booed in Jamaica, LOL! I wasn't about to type in what I saw in the reports but apparently, Ms. Ross has been given the unfortunate nickname of Miss Rass after her "performance" at the 11th Annual Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.
A crowd of 15,000 (or 40,000 depending on the article) were left pissed off that the former Supremes front woman demanded the big TV screens that were shown on the jumbotron for the performers there - including Jill Scott, Anita Baker and J.T. Taylor - to be turned off. To make things worse, only one portion of the audience could even see Diana and this led to a series of hisses that turned into boos after the diva sung some of her Supremes hits. After shouting "no more music" and leaving the stage, the audience members booed her out of there. In the end Billy Ocean had to come out and practically save the festival from being an ultimate ruin. Ms. Ross may have performed for the first - and last - time in Jamaica thanks to this incident. Here's one article about it: http://breakingnews.iol.i...=z446x78zx Damn, Diana.

Yikes.
Somehow it's tough to feel bad for her, though. She seems so (unwarrantedly) difficult. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Knowing her, she prob. didnt want to show anysigns of aging that would've been crystal clear on a jumbo-tron.. If the monitors were in high-def. she'd probably have looked a little on the crinkley side. And you KNOW she wasnt having that shit. in other words, "fuck all y'all Im beautiful dammit!" A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

The problem is that Diana's usually a person who don't explain half of what she do and when she's silent, people say whatever they want and she doesn't see that. She just acts oblivious to her surroundings and moves on. That's why sometimes it's hard for me to feel sorry for her even halfway.

[Edited 1/30/08 9:49am] The question is: will she ever? I mean, of all the legendary female singers to emerge out of the '60s, she has been dealt with more low blows. That's the price you pay for thinking your shit don't always stink.

I'm mostly a Supremes fan and I actually dig some of her solo material but I guess I wasn't so much into her like that. I'm like a casual fan. Either way, I'm still disappointed but not surprised she would act like this. She does this every time I start to feel sorry for her, lol.

You know the odd thing is that during the performance that night, there were accusations that she was lip-synching, lol. Imagine that.

I think the best part of the story is the part no one has mentioned: The fact that Billy Ocean had to go out there and calm the crowd and save the show from a riot. Considering that Billy Ocean was almost booed during Live Aid back in 1985, he was sent out there early to perform and he was singing to a backing track of his own voice, and there were flashes of the crowd with their OZZY and BLACK SABBATH t-shirts on and he's singing to a back-track of "Caribbean Queen" and im thinking, this guy is going to get killed. That's really ODD! I heard Billy Ocean gave a GREAT performance though and saved the day. But I think I remember hearing about that. I felt sad for Billy. Also odd, like I said a post before, Diana was accused of also using a backing track!

Many people think this is ok, but I prefer someone who actually sings live even if their voice is not top notch.

And at Live Aid he used the record behind him so the song didnt just end it faded, and as it started to fade they stopped it and it sounded really awkward because he was accapella for a few seconds, i felt bad for him mainly because everyone that day had someone play behind them live. Madonna even had the members of the Thompson Twins playing behind her, poor Billy was left out there alone "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Well, I'm a Jamaican and that shit 'Miss Ross' decided to pull was not cool at all! Damn!... people here in Jamaica payed alot of money to come see her especially, as well as those who flew in. She signed a contract, she was paid upfront and at the last minute she decides, "no close up images on the jumbo screens"....what the hell? tell me where the logic in that is?
All I know is, she's lucky that a lot of the people who went to that show was from the upper side of society, so their reactions were a little less than it would've been had some 'not so controlled Jamaicans' been in attendance! Miss Ross really gave us a diss and for no good reason! My question though, would she have done this in the U.S.A.????

Maybe THAT'S why she didn't want the jumbotron screens on. Poor Diana. Guess a mountain was high enough for that shit. [Edited 1/30/08 19:03pm]
