Donny Hathaway appreciation thread Because I just have to... I just heard a bevy of this guy's songs from his too-short career and clips from YouTube, the guy was truly one of a kind, a frickin' GENIUS! He should've been bigger than what he was. My favorite tracks go as follows: The Ghetto Someday We'll All Be Free For All We Know A Song for You To Be Young, Gifted & Black Thank You Master (For My Soul) Put Your Hand in the Hand This Christmas You Were Meant for Me I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know Giving Up Come Little Children Love, Love, Love Where is the Love You Are My Heaven The Closer I Get to You ...what's your faves from this late Soul messiah?

Yeah the guy had a very beautiful and TIMELESS voice! I know what you meant by live. I love his renditions of "The Ghetto" and "A Song for You" live.

Donny Hathaway was the quintessential soul man. Few people can write such powerful songs, and few people can sing with such a quiet passion. Whether he was interpreting an original American classic, singing his passionate heart out on one of his own compositions, or even composing an exquisite instrumental, we always felt what King Donny was saying. If you haven't heard these four solo classics:
.....You have been warned, you are missing out on one of the most soulful endeavors you will ever experience. Not to mention his timeless duets with Miss Roberta Flack: (I'm still looking forward to buying that one!) Check me out and add me on:

Seriously though, we need to organize and get the person who let Chris Brown sing his song BEAT DOWN.
It's just WRONG. | |

Donny Hathaway! The Original Don Of Soul! A deep, soulful genius! His interpretations of The Beatles'"Yesterday" and Stevie Wonder's "Superwoman" must not be missed!

The Come Back Charleston Blue soundtrack was just released on cd by Rhino/Atlantic/WEA/UK. Check out this wonderful extension of Donny's genius. It is easy to see how he stretched from this to the outstanding opening of "Extension Of A Man".

Is there any where I can find his cover of Stevie's Superwoman? Every hardcore soul fan should check this one out but I don't know where to find it. Check me out and add me on:

You could probably find "Superwoman" on YouTube. He actually did a fine cover of it, it's slower and more jazzier than Stevie's.

Hey, hip-hop fans, do the piano riff in the intro sound familiar?

I always laugh when Donny introduces it as "Superwoman," but then skips right over that part to sing "Where Were You When I Needed You." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Yeah, lol! But it's still nice tho. I wished he did the "Superwoman" part for real...unless it was edited and he did do it, lol.

But there's always that conspiracy theory... I always thought that the pressures of his record label made him commit suicide, for exclusive reasons. Check me out and add me on:
