Would this guy make it through the auditions in Idol today?

I recently stumbled apon a site which has the isolated vocal track of Van Halen's "Running with the Devil".... I'm not exactly into Van Halen or David Lee Roth for that matter, but this is HILARIOUS! lol

(sound link at the bottom of the page)
Check out his yelps and screams throughout the whole song.... was he trying to do a James Brown impression? evillol
Yet, this guy was/is much more entertaining and more of a showman than most new stars today.... and I wonder if Randy, Paula and Simon would give this guy a chance if he were auditioning in AI today...

American Idol is a disgusting habit that America needs to kick. David Lee Roth is one of the best frontmen of recent history and he set the bar HIGH for those that came after him. Its because of shows like American Idol that America may never have another David Lee Roth. Although there have been better singers, no one from American Idol comes close to having the kind of stage presence and persona that Diamond Dave had. As long as America craves karaoke kings and queens, record labels are going to churn them out left and right and people will say "damn, there's no good music". Sometimes you need character in your voice rather than perfect vocal riffs and runs.
So, FUCK AMERICAN IDOL AND ITS STANDARDS. Everybody wants to be an armchair Simon but Simon's not even as "Simon" as he is on Idol. That's just a schtick that he does for the camera. Look at his record in the industry.
Unfortunately, a lot of execs are starting to judge music in the same style as the character Simon. You can tell from the records that get pushed as top 40.

Well American Idol has really done just that, it showcases peoples dreams that they can be the next...whatever. And for the most part, just being able to sing well doesnt make you an artist by any means. Though Idol has thrown out some good vocalists with good voices into the world, is that what being an artist is about? I remember Richard Marx saying about this show, that its only bringing out the best karaoke singers, its not bringing out the best artists, he was a part of the Nashville star show and he was saying that they dont even let you audition if you suck, just to get your airtime and like a fool. They make you write songs etc, structure them yourself, play instruments etc..

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

there are outlets other than american idol and the judges on that show make it clear that those auditioning must fit in with what the show is about
