Is Beyonce The Tina Turner Of Her Generation?

I was watching a performance of Ike & Tina on youtube earlier and I couldn't get over the similarities between the two. I really think Beyonce has modled her ENTIRE stage persona after Tina Turner, even down to the way she dresses but I don't really hear anyone saying anything about it. Now, Beyonce is a good singer and probably the best performer out there today of the younger artists, but the girl is not original in the least. I just can't believe how much she copies Tina and I know I can't be the only one who has noticed the similarities. The main differences between Tina and Beyonce though is that Beyonce isn't nearly as good a singer or performer as Tina, plus Tina's music is just much better but yeah if Beyonce isn't Tina Turner Jr. or trying to be at least then I don't know what.

Lol I'm DEFINITELY not saying Beyonce is as talented as Tina, i'm not that crazy now lol. However I do see so many similarities between the two as far as their stage persona's go.

While I think Tina Turner is much more talented and has a better catalog of music as a solo artist and with her former husband, and I would argue is much more popular and well-known around the world, I think you make a good point about the similarities between both female artists.

I suppose Beyonce is one of the most prominent and successful female artists in mainstream music of the last decade.

Ohh yes absolutely! The first time I saw the video for "Work It Out", I immediately thought of Tina.

Here is a performance of Beyonce singing "Proud Mary" at the 2005 Kennedy Center honoring Tina (Singing "I idolize You" would have probably been more appropriate for Beyonce to sing tho lol). However, I have to say that Beyonce did a great job here. She definitely did her thang so I can't hate!

But It's funny though because when Beyonce was in Destiny's Child I never got the feeling she was trying to be Tina, but when she became a solo artist it seemed like she started to pattern almost all her performances after Tina's.

Nope. As much as I love B her music is Casio-ish. (Yeah, I'll buy a lexicon later.)

If she were to do rock and different styles of music it would be kewl.

Beyonce is TOO clean, TOO calculated, TOO boring and TOO pretentious to be somebody like Anna Mae Bullock.

Thats an unfair comparision to Beyonce.

her image onstage does, but she doesn't compare to tina at all, I'm saying this though I'm a fan. I loved tina as a kid so she will always have a special place in my heart.

lol Relax. Once again I never said Beyonce was as talented as Tina. As someone already stated, Tina is in a league of her own. I'm not even much of a Beyonce fan to be honest and I think most of her music is trash but if you all can't see the similarities between the two as far as their stage performances goes, then you're either blind or in denial lol.

Nope, but her music is close to Tina post soul-era...

Beyonce is a Pop/Soul artist...

But I think Beyonce is FAR better vocalist than Tina Turner... No doubt

Tina Turner is the queen of Soul music, she's like the female James Brown...

She has one or two songs that attempt Tina but other than that, not even close.

She is the Diana Ross, for all the good and bad that goes with it. Some things are obivious like starting in a group but having the male figure who always saw her as the solo act, etc. And there is a large element of glamour that goes along with her image, the attempt at acting ("Dreamgirls" was her "Lady Sings..." of course not as successful in that it did not help her as an actress).

And let's be honest, when it comes to life stories, Beyonce's is a hellvu a lot more like Diana's. Tina's was more hard fought in every way and she saw this soul in her voice. I listen to those eighties records and some people might say they are too produced and don't touch the more funky, soulful, rocking or real Ike stuff but her voice in songs like "Better Be Good To Me" and the songwriting and the pharsing and the production...forget it! Try that, Beyonce. Just try!

...okay...you pretty much had me until you compared Beyonce's Dreamgirls to Diana's Lady Sings the Blues lol . Diana acted her booty off in that film...actually I've always felt that she's a very capable actress that simply has not had enough vehicles in which to shine...Bouncy, however no no no! they need to keep that child as far away from movie sets as possible lol

I agree nod Image-wise,Beyonce is more like this generations' Diana Ross.Of course,Beyonce's music can't compete with Diana's amazing catalog.
