To be serious, I have no problem with how she looks. One of my favorite recording artists is Michael Jackson for crying out loud. The man who defines the Jackie O brought to life from the dead look.

I think the person who keeps insisting that she looks like an "ugly Catwoman" is quite young and unaware of the style of the 50s with regard to hairstyles, eyebrows, makeup in general. Against the styles of today, every earlier decade looks a bit weird. She actually was considered quite attractive in her younger years.
As for the original post, I don't have a problem with Beyonce in general, but I think she is a poor choice to play Etta, vocally and in appearance. I know they can do a lot with the look, but there are some others who I think could do a better job---Jill Scott or Queen Latifah come to MY mind.
