Its hard for me to reply in an ez way to a topic called 'Your favorite unknown 1970s Funk acts?' because..Im a DIEHARD Funk vinyl collector since like 1975 ! I can dig what you are saying tho' Its just hard for me to say something like SHUGGIE OTIS in 2008...Maybe then I'll say..Willie Hale Little Beaver.. MrSoulpower said: C'mon man, us funkateers know all these albums, but the average person doesn't, not even on this site. And that is why there are only the same five people posting on this thread. Deal with it, the artists discussed on this thread are not known outside of our little subculture. By the way, you are still wrong about "thousands" of these albums floating around. I dare you pick up an OG pressing of S.O.U.L. or Sir Joe Quarterman any day now .. Party down is the cut!!!Miamisoul! /peace Manki

How do all youse guyz make that cool cover art show up in a message box? I couldn't seem to figure it out.
I wanted to add Baby Huey and the Babysitters to the mix although Huey died only 10 months into 1970. I used to see them in small clubs around Chicago and this 400 pound singer and frontman made me get chicken skin every time. He was a powerful presence with a powerful voice to match. The last time I saw him before he died he was opening for Testify-era Parliment and Cream at the Aragon Ballroom. He was his usual awesome self but this night he came onstage wearing only a giant diaper and a stupid little bonnet to emulate a popular comic book character of the time. I don't know whose good idea that was but I felt really bad for him. I've often wondered if the guy in the P-Funk bands picked that up from Huey. Anyway, here's a great article about he and the band: http://www.chicagoreader....41217.html And here's some sound clips of the only album he ever recorded: http://www.amazon.com/Bab...B00122NNP4

so are any of you familiar with the Kay Gees?
They were proteges of Kool and The Gang and their sound is similiar.Their 1974 single "You Got To Keep On Bumpin" is an underrated funk gem.

This cat was actually my neighbour when I lived in L.A. He'd definetely be known to the Jazz cats on this site, as he played drums on Charlie Parker's Dial sessions. But he made this outstanding Funk album with some insane beats in 1975. I got my copy from him.
